attention,&rdquo; which may explain Washington&rsquo;s response.<\/p>\n<p>And that pushiness &mdash; or perhaps the viral incident itself &mdash; appears to have triggered Washington to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >avoid future engagements<\/a> for &ldquo;Highest 2 Lowest.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/20\/entertainment\/denzel-washington-skips-cannes-film-festival-event-after-snapping-at-photographer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a>, Washington skipped a press conference for his film at Cannes on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, sans Washington, director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/spike-lees-anti-trumper-oscar-speech-ny-radio-host-tweets-pic-spike-hate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spike Lee<\/a> seemed to imply that the working relationship between he and the actor was done, though it&rsquo;s unclear if there&rsquo;s any acrimony there.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It&rsquo;s been a blessing to have this body of work of us doing films that the people love,&rdquo; Lee told the press. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s a blessing, again. I don&rsquo;t know if we&rsquo;re going to do it again.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Lee added: &ldquo;I think this is it. Five [films]. [Denzel&rsquo;s] been talking about retirement, even though he just did another deal.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Highest 2 Lowest&rdquo; is Lee&rsquo;s interpretation of 1963 Japanese film &ldquo;High and Low&rdquo; (or &ldquo;Heaven and Hell&rdquo;) from legendary Japanese film auteur Akira Kurosawa.
