Utah)<\/p>\n<p>It followed the Supreme Court&rsquo;s June 2024 ruling in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/supreme-court\/3045214\/supreme-court-strikes-down-ban-on-bump-stocks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Cargill v. Garland\">Cargill v. Garland<\/a><\/em>, which held that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives exceeded its statutory authority by banning bump stocks via regulatory rulemaking. A month later, a federal judge in Texas applied the same logic to forced-reset triggers, a type of firearm component allowing users to fire semiautomatic rifles more rapidly, giving Rare Breed legal momentum.<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ acknowledged that continuing the fight in court would likely be unsuccessful in light of <em>Cargill<\/em> and agreed to a permanent injunction blocking further federal enforcement against legally defined FRTs. The government will return any seized triggers to owners and cease efforts to reclassify the parts as machine guns.<\/p>\n<p>The Rare Breed website celebrated the news with a <a href=\"https:\/\/rarebreedtriggers.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">notice<\/a>: &ldquo;The cuffs are off. As of May 16, 2025, we&rsquo;re free!&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Dudley Brown, president of the National Association for Gun Rights, praised the outcome as a historic legal victory. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We didn&rsquo;t just beat the ATF &mdash; we put them in a submission hold, and they tapped out,&rdquo; Brown <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NatlGunRights\/status\/1923458804848722342\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">said<\/a>. &ldquo;This decision marks a new era of holding the DOJ and ATF accountable when they trample the rights of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/utah-axes-gun-permit-requirement\/\" title=\"Utah Axes Gun-Permit Requirement\u00a0\">law-abiding gun owners<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>However, the settlement includes limitations. Rare Breed agreed not to develop FRTs for pistols and to enforce its patents to block potentially unsafe imitations. The company will also promote responsible product use, something its packaging already did in great detail, according to court filings from the litigation.<\/p>\n<p>Gun control groups quickly condemned the move. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This means that these highly dangerous weapons of war can now be purchased anonymously and without a Brady Background Check,&rdquo; the Brady Campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bradyunited.org\/press\/trump-administrations-secret-deal-to-legalize-machine-gun-conversion-devices\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">said<\/a> in a press release. Giffords issued a more alarmist statement, alleging, &ldquo;Trump just effectively legalized machine guns.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The settlement came amid the Trump administration&rsquo;s efforts to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3395013\/republicans-appeal-pam-bondi-investigation-restrictive-colorado-gun-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">reverse<\/a> several Biden-era gun control measures.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3395013\/republicans-appeal-pam-bondi-investigation-restrictive-colorado-gun-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong>COLORADO REPUBLICANS APPEAL TO BONDI FOR INVESTIGATION INTO RESTRICTIVE GUN CONTROL LAWS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The ATF has already rescinded its &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atf.gov\/rules-and-regulations\/enhanced-regulatory-enforcement-policy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">zero tolerance<\/a>&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >policy targeting gun dealers<\/a> and launched reviews of pistol brace restrictions and rules on used gun sales.
