Some Republican members voted “present,” allowing the bill to advance despite expressing reservations.

Republican Rep. Jodey Arrington, the committee chair, mentioned ongoing discussions among GOP factions with differing priorities, indicating that the process is far from finalized. Trump applauded the committee’s decision, framing it as a significant possibility for Republicans to enact considerable change in governance.

House Speaker Mike Johnson emphasized commitment to finalizing the bill swiftly, acknowledging its <a href="https://www.conservativenewsdaily.net/breaking-news/live-2-pm-et-house-oversight-committee-hearing-on-bidenomics-a-perfect-storm-of-spending-debt-and-inflation/" title="LIVE NOW: ... Critics within the party, such as Rep.Chip Roy,expressed concerns that the bill still requires adjustments to fully align with conservative values and address fiscal challenges.

The bill’s trajectory remains uncertain as it moves to the House floor for a vote, and it will ultimately need to pass in the Senate where different priorities may emerge.

President Donald Trump’s “big beautiful bill” that would extend his 2017 tax cuts and reshape federal spending cleared a hurdle Sunday night that it failed to clear last week.

The bill passed the House Budget Committee 17-16 in a rare Sunday night vote, according to The New York Times.
