According to Italian media outlet RAI, the pope is prepared to facilitate discussions to help both parties find a common ground and restore peace. Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin indicated that the Holy See is willing to host discussions and assist in bringing both sides together. <\/p>\n<p>The Istanbul talks marked the first in-person meeting of representatives from Ukraine and Russia as the begining of the invasion in 2022. Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov met with Russian Kremlin aide Vladimir Medinsky.
