The event was part of national Police Week and included video remarks from Trump, who emphasized the sacrifices made by officers to maintain public safety. Last year, 147 officers gave their lives in the line of duty.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump also touted the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/restoring-the-death-penalty-and-protecting-public-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">executive order<\/a> he signed on his first day in office, directing the Justice Department to seek the death penalty for anyone accused of murdering a police officer.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It was my wonderful honor to do it,&rdquo; Trump said of the executive order. &ldquo;I want every <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/georgia-secretary-of-state-investigating-voter-registration-group-run-by-democrat-raphael-warnock\/\" title=\"Georgia Secretary Of State Investigating Voter Registration Group Run By Democrat Raphael Warnock\">law enforcement officer<\/a> across the country to know that you have a president who will always have your back.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In his remarks to the crowd gathered at the Capitol, Vance recognized two officers who were killed in the line of duty&nbsp;last year and a third who was killed in an <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >alleged revenge incident&#038;nbsp<\/a>;earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Harris County, Texas, Deputy Sheriff <a href=\"https:\/\/www.odmp.org\/officer\/27094-deputy-sheriff-fernando-esqueda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Fernando Esqueda<\/a> was killed in July 2024 during an ambush attack as he was investigating a vehicle wanted in connection with an aggravated assault. St. Louis Metropolitan Police Officer <a href=\"https:\/\/slmpd.org\/slmpd-officer-hit-and-killed-on-i-70-suspect-arrested\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">David Lee<\/a> was killed in September 2024 after responding to a car crash on Interstate 70 and being hit by a driver who lost control of their Kia Sorento.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Today we mourn the actual officers, the individual men and women who have been taken from us far too soon,&rdquo; Vance said. &ldquo;We mourn officers like David Lee, an 18-year veteran of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;He died as he lived, serving others tirelessly without fail,&rdquo; Vance continued.<\/p>\n<p>Esqueda&rsquo;s funeral &ldquo;brought over 1,000 community members&rdquo; who honored the late officer&rsquo;s legacy, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-defector-emails-pipeline-to-obama-admin-seen-as-currency\/\" title=\"Hunter Biden Defector Emails: &#039;Pipeline&#039; to Obama Admin Seen as &#039;Currency&#039;\">vice president<\/a> also said.<\/p>\n<p>Vance then mentioned the death of Hamilton County, Ohio, Deputy Sheriff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wlwt.com\/article\/hamilton-county-sheriffs-deputy-killed-in-crash-identified\/64665624\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Larry Henderson<\/a>, who was allegedly killed by Rodney Hinton Jr. in retaliation for the death of his son, Ryan Hinton, who was killed by Cincinnati police.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The story hits especially close to home, because I am, of course, a person who calls Cincinnati my home,&rdquo; Vance said. &ldquo;Deputy Henderson was an exemplary public servant to southwestern Ohio, the part of the country that made me who I am.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3410478\/jd-vance-police-week-white-house-support-law-enforcement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">VANCE TOUTS WHITE HOUSE SUPPORT FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT DURING NATIONAL POLICE WEEK<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The vice president implicitly slammed Democrats over their previous support of the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020 and the subsequent &ldquo;defund the Police&rdquo; slogan.
