It undermines public trust in government and sends a troubling message that elected officials and state employees are entitled to a publicly-funded legal defense, even for matters entirely disconnected from their public responsibilities,&rdquo; state senate Republicans wrote to DiNapoli in a letter obtained by the <em>New York Post<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The letter was signed by State Senate Minority Leader Republican Robert Ortt and 21 other Republican state senators.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3394297\/letitia-james-ethics-complaint-new-york-state-courts-criminal-referral-fraud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong>LETITIA JAMES SUBJECT OF ETHICS COMPLAINT TO NEW YORK STATE COURTS AFTER CRIMINAL REFERRAL<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The notion in New York&rsquo;s budget comes after Trump&rsquo;s DOJ launched a &ldquo;working group&rdquo; designed to<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/bondi-new-ag-launches-weaponization-working-group-review\/story?id=118501463\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> investigate<\/a> James and other legal officials who have investigated Trump over the years. The Justice Department recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3405822\/new-york-attorney-general-letitia-james-fbi-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">launched a criminal investigation<\/a> into allegations that James engaged in mortgage fraud when purchasing homes in New York and Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>James&rsquo;s lawyer told CBS News that the investigation &ldquo;appears to be the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/letitia-james-criminal-fraud-probe-sources-trump-justice-department\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">political retribution<\/a> President Trump threatened to exact that AG Bondi assured the Senate would not occur on her watch.
