The grand jury charged her with obstruction and concealing the immigrant&#8217;s whereabouts after she <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >reportedly confronted federal officials attempting<\/a> to arrest him in her courtroom.Following an altercation on April 25, in which Dugan allegedly led the immigrant and his attorney out through a non-public area, she was arrested by the FBI. Dugan&#8217;s legal team has filed a motion to dismiss the charges, arguing she acted within her judicial capacity, and maintains her innocence, emphasizing her intent to be vindicated in court.<\/p>\n<p>Comparisons have been drawn by some on the left between Dugan and historical figures like Harriet Tubman, suggesting she is a civil rights defender. However, this characterization has drawn criticism, and many argue that her actions put public safety at risk, notably given the immigrant&#8217;s past violent allegations. Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson suggested that if found guilty, Dugan should face notable punishment to serve as a deterrent to similar misconduct in the judiciary, stressing the importance of cooperation with immigration authorities.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The accused scofflaw judge that the left has adopted as its latest martyr &mdash; a modern-day <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/people\/harriet-tubman.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Harriet Tubman<\/a>, even &mdash; is now a federally-indicted judge facing up to six years in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines on charges she helped an allegedly violent illegal immigrant evade federal officials. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A federal grand jury this week handed down a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/milwaukee-judge-indicted-helping-immigrant-evade-ice-faces-up-to-6-years-in-prison\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">two-page indictment<\/a> accusing Milwaukee County Circuit Court <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/28\/milwaukee-judge-charged-with-putting-herself-above-the-law-by-rejecting-rule-of-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Judge Hannah Dugan<\/a> of knowingly concealing an illegal alien from arrest and obstructing federal law enforcement proceedings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Milwaukee grand jury did not seem to view the liberal activist judge as a 21st century Harriet Tubman.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FBI agents <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/28\/milwaukee-judge-charged-with-putting-herself-above-the-law-by-rejecting-rule-of-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">arrested<\/a> Dugan on April 25, a week after prosecutors say Dugan angrily confronted federal law enforcement officials and allegedly helped <a href=\"http:\/\/Eduardo%20Flores-Ruiz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Eduardo Flores-Ruiz<\/a> briefly escape arrest via an exit not accessible to the general public. Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, a Mexican national who had previously been deported, was in court and scheduled to appear before Dugan to face charges of battering two people at a Milwaukee residence, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/69943125\/1\/united-states-v-dugan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">criminal complaint.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The judge is scheduled to appear in federal court on Thursday to enter a plea.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Federalist could not reach Dugan for comment. One of her attorneys, Craig Mastantuono, said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/milwaukee-judge-hannah-dugan-indicted-federal-grand-jury\/story?id=121775489\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">statement<\/a> that the judge &ldquo;asserts her innocence and looks forward to being vindicated in court.&rdquo;&rsquo;<\/p>\n<h2>&lsquo;No Ordinary Criminal Case&rsquo;<\/h2>\n<p>Dugan&rsquo;s high-priced legal team moved on Wednesday to have the federal charges against her tossed out, <a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsinexaminer.com\/briefs\/milwaukee-county-judge-files-to-have-federal-charges-against-her-dismissed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to<\/a> the leftist Wisconsin Examiner.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is no ordinary criminal case, and Dugan is no ordinary criminal defendant,&rdquo; states the motion to dismiss, obtained by the publication. &ldquo;Dugan is a Milwaukee County Circuit Court judge. She was arrested and indicted for actions allegedly taken in and in the immediate vicinity of her courtroom, involving a person appearing before her as a party.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>As expected, Dugan&rsquo;s legal team is arguing federal law enforcement had no authority to arrest a Milwaukee County judge engaged in her official duties, protected under the &ldquo;Tenth Amendment and fundamental principles of federalism and comity reflected in that amendment and in the very structure of the United States Constitution.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>As the Trump-hating left likes to say, however, &ldquo;no one is above the law.&rdquo; Federal prosecutors say the judge put herself above the law when she allegedly directed the wanted illegal alien and his attorney out the back door, which resulted in a foot chase to apprehend a man accused of violent acts who may have thought he had nothing to lose.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On the day of Dugan&rsquo;s arrest, FBI Director Kash Patel wrote in an X post that the judge &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fbi-arrests-milwaukee-judge-hannah-dugan-over-obstructing-ice-operations\/\" title=\"... ...s ... ... over obstructing ... operations\">intentionally misdirected federal agents<\/a> away from the subject to be arrested in her courthouse &hellip;&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Thankfully, our agents chased down the perp on foot and he&rsquo;s been in custody since, but the Judge&rsquo;s obstruction created increased danger to the public,&rdquo; Patel wrote.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>Just NOW, the FBI arrested Judge Hannah Dugan out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin on charges of obstruction &mdash; after evidence of Judge Dugan obstructing an immigration arrest operation last week.<\/p>\n<p>We believe Judge Dugan intentionally misdirected federal agents away from the subject to be&hellip;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&mdash; FBI Director Kash Patel (@FBIDirectorKash) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FBIDirectorKash\/status\/1915800907318468626?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 25, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>According to the c<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/28\/milwaukee-judge-charged-with-putting-herself-above-the-law-by-rejecting-rule-of-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">riminal complaint,<\/a> Dugan was &ldquo;visibly angry&rdquo; with a &ldquo;confrontational, angry demeanor&rdquo; when U.S. Immigration &amp; Customs Enforcement agents showed up to arrest Flores-Ruiz.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dugan demanded the federal officials meet with Milwaukee County&rsquo;s chief justice down the hall from the courtroom, the federal complaint alleges. While much of the team was preoccupied, Dugan escorted Flores-Ruiz and his legal counsel out of the courtroom through the &ldquo;jury door,&rdquo; which leads to a non-public area of the courthouse, the complaint asserts. The judge had briskly adjourned the illegal immigrant&rsquo;s battery case, according to the state prosecutor working the case on behalf of the state. Dugan did so, the attorney told federal officials, even though Flores-Ruiz&rsquo;s &ldquo;victims were present in the courtroom.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>False Equivalencies&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<p>For allegedly interfering in the enforcement of the law, the radicals are painting the Milwaukee County judge as a civil-rights hero &mdash; absurdly on the scale of <a href=\"https:\/\/jonathanturley.org\/2025\/04\/29\/this-judge-is-a-hero-democratic-politicians-and-judges-rally-behind-hannah-dugan-and-call-for-resistance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Harriet Tubman<\/a>, the slave who escaped to freedom to become an abolition movement giant and conductor of the Underground Railroad.<\/p>\n<p>A trio of leftists, including Madison-based lawfare practitioner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/law-forward\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jeffrey Mandell,<\/a> ludicrously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/story\/opinion\/2025\/04\/30\/trump-prosecute-wisconsin-milwaukee-judge-hannah-dugan\/83343013007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">opined<\/a> in the sympathetic Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Dugan&rsquo;s cause and her troubles with federal authorities are similar to a famous Wisconsin Fugitive Slave case in antebellum America. The case of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsinhistory.org\/Records\/Article\/CS4368\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Joshua Glover<\/a> is powerful. The runaway slave escaped a Missouri plantation in 1854 en route to freedom in the north. Federal marshals arrived in Racine to arrest Glover under the hideous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.battlefields.org\/learn\/primary-sources\/fugitive-slave-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fugitive Slave<\/a> &ldquo;compromise&rdquo; law.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsinhistory.org\/Records\/Article\/CS1656\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sherman Booth<\/a>, an abolitionist newspaper editor, fired up a crowd outside a Milwaukee jail where Glover was being detained. The crowd stormed the jail and helped Glover escape to Canada where he lived the rest of his life as a free man. It&rsquo;s one of several inspiring stories from the abolitionist movement in the years leading up to the Civil War.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But Dugan isn&rsquo;t Booth, and Flores-Ruiz is no Joshua Glover. The illegal immigrant wasn&rsquo;t born a slave. He didn&rsquo;t escape human bondage. He left Mexico several years ago and entered the United States illegally. Federal law enforcement caught him breaking immigration laws and a judge agreed he should be <a href=\"https:\/\/abc13.com\/post\/wisconsin-judge-hannah-dugan-accused-helping-man-evade-immigration-agents-files-dismiss-charges\/16419206\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deported.<\/a> He was. He came back. And, recently, he was charged with badly beating two people in the Milwaukee home where he was said to live. The due process that Mandell and his leftist pals assert for a previously-deported illegal immigrant under the rule of immigration law doesn&rsquo;t square with the natural, self-evident rights of man. Like most arguments on the left, the audacious Fugitive Slave Act comparison collapses in an acid bath of false equivalencies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that Mandell runs the leftist lawfare firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/law-forward\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Law Forward<\/a> that has pushed a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/03\/06\/leftist-wisconsin-ag-just-cant-quit-his-phony-fake-electors-witch-hunt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">phony &ldquo;fake electors&rdquo; lawsuit<\/a> and cheered on a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/03\/06\/leftist-wisconsin-ag-just-cant-quit-his-phony-fake-electors-witch-hunt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">politically driven prosecution<\/a> of President Trump&rsquo;s allies. Among its targets is respected attorney and former Wisconsin judge <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/12\/11\/far-left-wisconsin-ag-doubles-down-on-political-prosecution-of-trump-attorneys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jim Troupis,<\/a> who has had his due process and other rights obliterated because he vigorously represented the Trump campaign in Wisconsin following the hotly contested 2020 presenting campaign.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>&lsquo;Send a Signal&rsquo;<\/h2>\n<p>Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., said the allegations against Dugan appear to be pretty well-founded. They certainly were for the grand jury. In deep blue Milwaukee County, the Republican senator said he can see a lot of jury members and judges &ldquo;sympathetic to a radical left judge who was obstructing justice.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If Dugan is guilty of the charges against her, Johnson said the judge &ldquo;ought to have the book thrown at her&rdquo; for two reasons.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;To punish crime, and she should be punished for her crime, and also to deter crimes,&rdquo; he told me last week on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iheart.com\/podcast\/426-the-vicki-mckenna-show-27246267\/episode\/vicki-mckenna-show-with-guest-matt-274519740\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Vicki McKenna Show<\/em><\/a>.&nbsp; &ldquo;And I think you need to, hopefully, send a signal to the rest of the judiciary, other offices fo the court: You have to cooperate with ICE as we legally deport some of these millions of people that got let into this country, they got welcomed in completely unvetted. Now they expect citizen-like due process rights for every illegal immigrant that came to this country.
