The exact timing of Alexander&#8217;s release has not been specified. The announcement comes as former U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit the Middle East, even though he will not be visiting Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Edan Alexander, a dual Israeli-american citizen and soldier, was abducted during the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023. His abduction marked the beginning of an ongoing conflict in Gaza. Following the announcement,the israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu&#8217;s office did not provide an immediate response. Netanyahu&rsquo;s government was angered by U.S. direct talks with Hamas earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Khalil al-Hayyah, a Hamas leader in Gaza, said the group has been in contact with the U.S. administration over the past few days.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Hayyah said in a statement Hamas is ready to &ldquo;immediately start intensive negotiations&rdquo; to reach a final deal for a long-term truce which includes an end to the war, the exchange of Palestinian prisoners and hostages in Gaza and the handing over of power in Gaza to an independent body of technocrats.<\/p>\n<p>Alexander&rsquo;s parents did not <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >immediately return requests<\/a> for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Trump and his special envoy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Steve-Witkoff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Steve Witkoff<\/a> have frequently mentioned Alexander, now 21, by name in the past few months. Witkoff is expected to visit Israel in the coming hours.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Every time they say Edan&rsquo;s name, it&rsquo;s like they didn&rsquo;t forget. They didn&rsquo;t forget he&rsquo;s American, and they&rsquo;re working on it,&rdquo; Edan&rsquo;s mother, Yael Alexander, told the <em>Associated Press<\/em> in February.<\/p>\n<p>Hamas released a video of Alexander in November during the Thanksgiving weekend, his favorite holiday, his mother said.
