It&rsquo;s a question worth asking given that the Obama appointee appeared to do just that in her recent public remarks.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday night, Sotomayor attended an event hosted by the notoriously left-wing American Bar Association (ABA), in which she seemingly made an indirect reference to President Trump and conservatives&rsquo; criticisms of the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/03\/20\/the-judicial-insurrection-is-worse-than-you-think\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ongoing judicial coup<\/a> among lower court judges who are stymieing the administration&rsquo;s agenda via overreaching injunctions. As The Federalist&rsquo;s Joy Pullmann previously <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/03\/10\/the-trump-admin-and-all-republican-states-should-ditch-the-american-bar-association\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, the ABA routinely &ldquo;advocates for and engages in unlawful racial and sexual discrimination and is a highly partisan actor on behalf of the Democrat Party and other anti-Constitution activists.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-335403933\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In an apparent rebuke to the judiciary&rsquo;s critics, Sotomayor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/supreme-court\/justice-sonia-sotomayor-urges-lawyers-stand-trump-tumult-rcna205720\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reportedly<\/a> characterized her attendance at the event as an &ldquo;act of solidarity&rdquo; with the legal profession. The associate justice more outwardly abandoned impartiality by encouraging attendees to &ldquo;stand up and be heard.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;In all of the uncertainty that exists at this moment, this is our time to stand up and be heard,&rdquo; Sotomayor said. &ldquo;Right now we can&rsquo;t lose the battles we are facing.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;If you&rsquo;re not used to fighting losing battles, don&rsquo;t become a lawyer. &hellip; Our job is to stand for people who can&rsquo;t do it themselves,&rdquo; she added. <\/p>\n<p>Sorry, but who is this &ldquo;we&rdquo; that Sotomayor is referring to? <\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s generally incumbent upon judges to portray a semblance of impartiality with regard to ongoing political matters, especially given that such issues could ultimately come before their courts (as has already happened <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/05\/06\/scotus-blocks-lower-court-injunction-on-trump-admins-military-trans-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">several<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/25\/scotuss-refusal-to-end-leftists-judicial-coup-is-damaging-its-credibility-more-than-the-media-ever-could\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">times<\/a> under this Trump administration). To signal one&rsquo;s personal views beforehand and eventually issue rulings based on one&rsquo;s preferred outcome instead of what the law calls for is both improper and a gross abuse of judicial authority.<\/p>\n<p>But much like her colleagues <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/05\/02\/after-years-of-leftist-threats-against-justices-kbj-decides-trump-is-the-real-threat-to-democracy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ketanji Brown Jackson<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/05\/08\/john-roberts-tacit-endorsement-of-judicial-supremacy-is-undermining-scotus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">John Roberts<\/a>, Sotomayor doesn&rsquo;t seem to care. <\/p>\n<p>As previously indicated, what&rsquo;s particularly disturbing about the Obama appointee&rsquo;s Thursday remarks is their implication for matters involving the ABA that come before the Supreme Court. As aptly <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JCNSeverino\/status\/1920906091845873838\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">noted<\/a> by Judicial Crisis Network President Carrie Severino, Sotomayor&rsquo;s temper tantrum &ldquo;makes a mockery of any appearance of objectivity in cases challenging the administration or involving the ABA.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The JCN president highlighted how the ABA has <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JCNSeverino\/status\/1920906096027267319\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">filed<\/a> an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/wex\/amicus_curiae\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">amicus brief<\/a> in a case currently pending before the high court. Known as <em>United States v. Skrmetti<\/em>, the matter <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/25\/heres-the-federalists-guide-to-this-years-biggest-supreme-court-cases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">involves<\/a> challenges to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >state laws prohibiting health care providers<\/a> from providing&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/09\/gender-affirmation-for-minors-is-child-abuse-not-treatment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">harmful<\/a>&nbsp;puberty blockers and genital mutilation surgeries to minors. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;So what do the Democrats who regularly look for lame pretexts for conservative justices to recuse from cases have to say about this?&rdquo; Severino <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JCNSeverino\/status\/1920906097910558840\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a>. &ldquo;And are the journos worried about the ethics of what [Sotomayor] said or are we all good?&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Sotomayor&rsquo;s Thursday night outburst is certainly unprofessional. But it&rsquo;s also another example of the justice showcasing her left-wing activism.<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of her <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/sonia-sotomayor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">judicial career<\/a>, Sotomayor has regularly used her position as a judge to manipulate existing constitutional and statutory provisions to argue for the outcome she wants in almost any given case.
