Thom Tillis expressed opposition. Martin, who has been serving as the acting U.S. attorney, had his nomination affected by concerns related to his representation of defendants from the January 6 Capitol riots. trump praised Martin’s performance, noting a important drop in crime during his tenure, but acknowledged the lack of necessary support for his nomination. Tillis stated that his opposition stemmed from his belief that anyone who breached the Capitol on January 6 should face imprisonment. Without Tillis’s backing,Martin’s nomination faced significant hurdles<\/a>,perhaps leading to a deadlock in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
