His firing was confirmed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shortly after he expressed his commitment to his role on social media. During the congressional hearing, Hamilton diverged from the stance of former President Trump, who has suggested dismantling FEMA. Hamilton emphasized the necessity of FEMA, arguing that it could not be replaced by state efforts, and pointed out issues within the agency that he aimed to reform for better <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gov-kate-brown-says-fema-needs-to-help-illegal-immigrants\/\" title=\"Gov. The remark marked a break from Trump, who has called for the agency&rsquo;s dismantling.<\/p>\n<p>During the hearing, Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) asked Hamilton whether the Trump administration planned to eliminate FEMA and whether he believed it ought to be dismantled.<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton responded that FEMA was necessary and could not be replaced by state efforts.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As the senior adviser to the president on disasters and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-has-signed-40-executive-orders-and-actions-since-taking-office\/\" title=\"Biden has signed 40 executive orders and actions since taking office\">emergency management<\/a> and to the secretary of homeland security, I do not believe it is in the best interest of the American people to eliminate the Federal Emergency Management Agency,&rdquo; Hamilton said. &ldquo;Having said that, I am not in a position to make decisions and impact outcomes.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The comments broke with Trump and his cohort&rsquo;s staunch opposition to FEMA. Trump told reporters during a Jan. 24 trip to see damage in North Carolina from Hurricane Helene that he would soon &ldquo;begin the process of reforming FEMA or getting rid of FEMA.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I think we&rsquo;re going to recommend that FEMA go away,&rdquo; Trump said. &ldquo;I&rsquo;d like to see the states take care of disasters.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-IL) brought up previous comments from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;When it comes to FEMA, Secretary Noem said that she wants to eliminate it, and President Trump said that it could, &lsquo;Go away,&#8217;&rdquo; Underwood said. &ldquo;Let me be clear, eliminating FEMA would cause catastrophic and needless suffering to the American public.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton previewed changes he would make to the agency, including having local and <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >state governments lead disaster response efforts<\/a>, using innovative methods to reach survivors, and enhancing FEMA&rsquo;s internal operational readiness.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Red tape, bureaucratic inertia, and top-down micro management have turned this disaster recovery into slow, costly, and frustrating processes,&rdquo; Hamilton said. &ldquo;It was for this very reason I was hired to refocus this organization in order to better serve the American people under President Trump&rsquo;s mandate.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/national-security\/3383261\/millions-do-not-have-a-real-id-heres-what-to-know-before-the-may-deadline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MILLIONS DO NOT HAVE A REAL ID. Chip Roy (R-TX) railed against Hamilton&rsquo;s firing in a post to X, saying his ousting from the agency is a &ldquo;loss for America.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I know <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CameronVA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">@CameronVA<\/a> and he is a great American, a veteran, and a friend.
