The lawsuit was initiated by the nonprofit institution Do No Harm on behalf of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/elite-san-francisco-school-nixes-merit-based-admission\/\" title=\"Elite San Francisco School Nixes Merit-Based Admission\">high-achieving student<\/a> who was barred from applying due to her race, despite having an remarkable academic record. Because ACS receives tens of millions of dollars from federal contracts, the group also argued the program violated President Donald Trump&rsquo;s January <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/ending-radical-and-wasteful-government-dei-programs-and-preferencing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">executive order<\/a> barring federal contractors from using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/after-arizona-ag-slammed-uber-doordash-for-offering-free-delivery-for-black-owned-businesses-companies-settle-civil-rights-cases\/\" title=\"After Arizona AG Slammed Uber, DoorDash For Offering Free Delivery For Black-Owned Businesses, Companies Settle Civil Rights Cases\">racially discriminatory policies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We are pleased that the American Chemical Society will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lightfoot-could-discriminate-again-without-court-action-judicial-watch-argues-in-dcnf-lawsuit\/\" title=\"Lightfoot Could Discriminate Again Without Court Action, Judicial Watch Argues In DCNF Lawsuit\">stop discriminating based<\/a> on race in its scholarships,&rdquo; said Dr. Stanley Goldfarb, chairman of DNH, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/donoharmmedicine.org\/2025\/05\/07\/acs-replaces-discriminatory-scholarship-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">statement<\/a>. &ldquo;Allowing identity politics to interfere with merit in medical education is not only a disservice to these future medical professionals, but also the patients they will serve.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> previously reported that ACS, a congressionally chartered nonprofit organization with over 155,000 members, defended the program as an effort to promote &ldquo;diverse scientific leaders,&rdquo; according to a previous webpage set up for the scholarship application.<\/p>\n<p>The updated scholarship page has replaced all diversity-related language, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acs.org\/education\/acs-undergraduate-scholarship.html#about-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">stating<\/a> that ACS is &ldquo;launching a new and expanded undergraduate scholarship program to support student education and build robust leaders in the chemical sciences focused on lifelong learning.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Do No Harm contended the original scholarship initiative amounted to illegal &ldquo;racial gatekeeping,&rdquo; citing the Supreme Court&rsquo;s 2023 ruling in&nbsp;<em>Students for Fair Admissions v.
