According to a new report, the pier was more of a failure than his administration would publicly admit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The floating port to aid Hamas-controlled Gaza was estimated to cost <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/22\/pentagon-tacitly-admits-bidens-gaza-pier-stunt-is-a-total-failure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$320 million<\/a>, as The Federalist previously reported, but was fraught with issues from the start. High winds and rough seas soon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2024\/05\/30\/us-built-pier-gaza-broke-apart-heres-how-we-got-here-and-what-might-be-next.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tore the pier apart<\/a> &mdash; costing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2024\/06\/06\/gaza-floating-pier-repair-cost\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$22 million<\/a>. As for the aid that successfully made it to shore, only some reached its intended destination, as looters <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/22\/pentagon-tacitly-admits-bidens-gaza-pier-stunt-is-a-total-failure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ransacked and stole<\/a> many of the delivery trucks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1671719577\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Army Sgt. Quandarius Stanley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2025\/05\/06\/ill-fated-gaza-pier-mission-lacked-sufficient-training-equipment-ig\/#:~:text=One%20service%20member%20died%20as,Press%20reported%20at%20the%20time.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">died<\/a> in October 2024 &ldquo;after being critically injured&rdquo; earlier during the mission, dubbed Operation Neptune Solace. The Department of Defense inspector general released a <a href=\"https:\/\/media.defense.gov\/2025\/May\/06\/2003704499\/-1\/-1\/1\/DODIG-2025-091_FINAL.PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a> on May 2, revealing that 62 U.S. personnel were injured over the course of the operation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After several redacted lines, the report admitted the operation damaged 27 watercraft and pieces of equipment &mdash; which required &ldquo;repair and maintenance&rdquo; costs of &ldquo;approximately $31 million.&rdquo; It pointed to various weaknesses in the military&rsquo;s &ldquo;joint logistics over&#8209;the&#8209;shore&rdquo; (JLOTS) operations.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"> <span class=\"FMNDJX6BnzxZmTI03u8Vjy9AdGRwJExvmutqySlFngPNUMY3Ia12ThbRlV8s4zqraHPOec1pXhfLK65KoGiOciw7QZ7QWY2\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">One of the biggest Biden embarrassments &ndash; the half baked Gaza Aid Pier. $230 million. 20 days in use. Insane scandal. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Reuters?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@reuters<\/a> &#128071; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/nPlZnVmMmt\">pic.twitter.com\/nPlZnVmMmt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Scott Jennings (@ScottJenningsKY) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ScottJenningsKY\/status\/1920128661295939985?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 7, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/span> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>&ldquo;[T]he Army and Navy did not meet Service-level standards for equipment and unit readiness, nor did they organize, train, and equip their forces to meet common joint standards,&rdquo; the report <a href=\"https:\/\/media.defense.gov\/2025\/May\/06\/2003704499\/-1\/-1\/1\/DODIG-2025-091_FINAL.PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reads<\/a>. &ldquo;Insufficient manning, training, and materiel readiness at the Military Service level, coupled with the lack of integration and the interoperability &hellip; reduced the DoD&rsquo;s effectiveness by repeatedly encountering known challenges and inefficiencies in JLOTS operations and exercises, including Operation Neptune Solace in Gaza.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The inspector general <a href=\"https:\/\/media.defense.gov\/2025\/May\/06\/2003704499\/-1\/-1\/1\/DODIG-2025-091_FINAL.PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">found<\/a> that planning documents lacked &ldquo;theater-specific information,&rdquo; and military planners &ldquo;did not fully consider mission-specific information requirements.&rdquo; The report also said the Army and Navy&rsquo;s equipment was &ldquo;not interoperable.&rdquo; It cited a shortage of watercraft, as the Army <a href=\"https:\/\/media.defense.gov\/2025\/May\/06\/2003704499\/-1\/-1\/1\/DODIG-2025-091_FINAL.PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sold<\/a> 48 percent of its watercraft in 2018 and 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, the inspector general concluded that &ldquo;the DoD faces potential challenges&rdquo; conducting these types of missions in &ldquo;fast-paced, contested, or simultaneous regional or global operations.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Under Biden&rsquo;s administration, the military&rsquo;s operational readiness <a href=\"https:\/\/news.usni.org\/2023\/05\/04\/gao-report-on-u-s-military-readiness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">plummeted<\/a>. The armed forces embraced <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/10\/03\/report-the-militarys-obsession-with-dei-politics-is-hampering-its-readiness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">diversity, equity, and inclusion<\/a> (DEI), as The Federalist previously reported, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >leaving military training institutions<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/09\/how-dei-left-service-academies-in-a-state-of-decay-and-how-trump-can-fix-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shambles<\/a>. And in 2021, Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/16\/americas-botched-afghanistan-withdrawal-last-year-was-entirely-bidens-fault\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">withdrew<\/a> American troops from Afghanistan in one of the most chaotic major events in recent military history &mdash; leaving behind citizens and translators and empowering the Taliban with abandoned military equipment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Under President Donald Trump, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has turned the military on its head &mdash; emphasizing high standards and readiness. Earlier this week, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/News\/News-Stories\/Article\/Article\/4173220\/defense-secretarys-first-100-days-of-delivering-on-promises\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">outlined<\/a> efforts he has already implemented to restore a &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pete-hegseths-composed-confirmation-hearing-performance-convinced-all-the-right-people\/\" title=\"Pete Hegseth&#039;s Composed Confirmation Hearing Performance Convinced All the Right People\">warrior ethos&#038;rdquo<\/a>; to the armed forces.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We will defend our country,&rdquo; Hegseth wrote in a release. &ldquo;Our standards will be high, uncompromising and clear.
