Ron Johnson, Wis., and Chuck Grassley, Iowa, sent a formal letter to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) requesting additional government records related to the Biden administration&rsquo;s role in the &ldquo;election interference&rdquo; case targeting then-former President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ronjohnson.senate.gov\/services\/files\/944575A1-9A1F-4914-8165-CEE90006D1DC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a>, sent April 30, to NARA Acting General Counsel Hannah Bergman and Acting Inspector General William C. Brown details how documents already obtained by Grassley and Johnson &ldquo;show a politically-driven conspiracy that began at the hands of a group of anti-Trump FBI officials who worked closely with Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutors in an investigation known as &lsquo;Arctic Frost.&#8217;&rdquo; As the letter notes, &ldquo;[t]hat investigation ultimately became Jack Smith&rsquo;s elector case against President Trump.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-21094806\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The letter sent by Johnson and Grassley requests additional records and communications from the Biden White House that pertain to the &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-deranged-sounding-georgia-grand-jury-foreman-throws-election-case-against-trump-into-legal-jeopardy\/\" title=\"WATCH: Deranged...Sounding Georgia Grand Jury Foreman Throws Election Case Against ... Into Legal Jeopardy\">election interference case<\/a> that began as&rdquo; Arctic Frost and the investigation into Trump&rsquo;s &ldquo;alleged mishandling of classified information,&rdquo; as well as all NARA records that refer or relate to &ldquo;Arctic Frost and the classified document investigation.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;[B]ecause many of the DOJ, FBI and Biden White House personnel who were involved in Arctic Frost were also involved in the Biden administration&rsquo;s classified document case against President Trump, we are also requesting records pertaining to that matter as part of our investigation,&rdquo; the letter reads.<\/p>\n<p>Arctic Frost was the term used inside the FBI to describe the investigation into Trump opened in 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/anti-trump-fbi-agent-responsible-opening-jack-smith-elector-case-against-president-whistleblower\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a> to Fox News. Sources reportedly told Fox News Digital that former FBI agent Timothy Thibault &ldquo;took the action to open the investigation and involve Trump,&rdquo; even though he was &ldquo;unauthorized to open criminal investigations in his role.&rdquo; Fox News also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/biden-white-house-turned-over-trump-pence-government-cell-phones-fbi-part-anti-trump-elector-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> in March that the Biden White House provided Trump and Vice President Mike Pence&rsquo;s government cellphones to the FBI as part of the probe. However, as Johnson and Grassley point out in their letter to NARA, this was done even though Trump &ldquo;was not yet a subject of the investigation.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong>[READNEXT:[READNEXT:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/05\/02\/newly-released-emails-show-politicized-fbi-targeting-trump-officials-for-obeying-the-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Newly Released Emails Show Politicized FBI Targeting Trump Officials For Obeying The Law<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Similar political motivations were on display in the Biden administration&rsquo;s attempt to jail Trump over retention of classified documents, as The Federalist&rsquo;s Margot Cleveland <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/15\/from-bureaucrat-hack-to-grand-jury-witch-hunt-the-dojs-trump-raid-smells-like-spygate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explained<\/a> nearly three years ago.<\/p>\n<p>As Cleveland noted, the Presidential Records Act &ldquo;provides that documents created or received by the president or his immediate staff&rdquo; must be preserved as &ldquo;presidential records&rdquo; and belong to the United States.<strong> <\/strong>NARA alleged that Trump had certain documents that qualified as &ldquo;presidential records&rdquo; and coordinated with Trump&rsquo;s representatives to retrieve 15 boxes of presidential papers, which then-Archivist David Ferriero said NARA had retrieved by February 2022.<\/p>\n<p>But NARA &ldquo;believ[ed] that the former White House was stonewalling and continued to possess unauthorized material,&rdquo; a DOJ leaker reportedly told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/exclusive-informer-told-fbi-what-docs-trump-was-hiding-where-1732283\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Newsweek<\/a> months later. According to leaks fed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/10\/trump-records-classified\/\">The Washington Post<\/a> in February 2022, &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/records-suggest-a-backbench-bureaucrats-partisan-grievance-spurred-the-fbis-nakedly-political-raid-on-trump-2\/\" title=\"Records Suggest A Backbench Bureaucrat\u2019s Partisan Grievance Spurred The ...\u2019s Nakedly Political Raid On ...\">archives officials asked<\/a> the Justice Department to look into the matter.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;By March 2022, NARA was reportedly in &lsquo;&rdquo;consultation&rdquo; with the Justice Department,&rsquo; and by April 7, 2022, according to leaks to the Post, the DOJ had launched an investigation into Trump related to the 15 boxes of material retrieved by NARA,&rdquo; Cleveland wrote.&nbsp;&ldquo;Further&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2022\/05\/12\/mar-a-lago-documents-grand-jury\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leaks<\/a>&nbsp;revealed that the DOJ by springtime had issued a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/08\/13\/us\/politics\/trump-classified-material-fbi.html?campaign_id=60&amp;emc=edit_na_20220813&amp;instance_id=0&amp;nl=breaking-news&amp;ref=cta&amp;regi_id=93402780&amp;segment_id=101353&amp;user_id=20a4f201a2fbd13845f9f94d88228e13\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">subpoena<\/a>&nbsp;to Trump purporting to seek &lsquo;additional documents that it believed may have been in his possession.&#8217;&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Once a grand jury started reviewing the case against Trump<strong> <\/strong>&ldquo;under the apparent auspices of a violation of the Presidential Records Act,&rdquo; Cleveland explained, the DOJ laid the groundwork for the Biden administration to try and ensnare the then-former president on trumped-up obstruction of justice charges.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">      Brianna Lyman is an elections correspondent at The Federalist.
