the order read in part, while also citing the &ldquo;hormonal and surgical medical interventions involved&rdquo; for someone choosing to identify as a different gender.<\/p>\n<p>In February, the Department of Defense <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/pentagon-memo-transgender-troops-identified-within-30-days-separated-military\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">issued the ban<\/a>, prompting seven current transgender service members, one transgender person who would like to join the military, and an advocacy group to file a suit in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-rep-bob-barr-the-boneheaded-move-to-unionize-national-guard-units\/\" title=\"Former Rep Bob Barr: The Boneheaded Move To Unionize National Guard Units\">federal court challenging<\/a> it, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotusblog.com\/2025\/05\/supreme-court-allows-trump-to-ban-transgender-people-from-military\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SCOTUSblog<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>On March 27, federal district court Judge Benjamin H. Settle, based in Tacoma, Washington, issued a nationwide injunction blocking the ban in the case known as Shilling v. U.S., named for the lead plaintiff, Cmdr. Emily Shilling, a Naval aviator who began transitioning in 2021, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/05\/06\/us\/politics\/supreme-court-transgender-troops.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Pres.
