Carney firmly rejected the notion, asserting that “Canada is not for sale.” Though, Trump countered with his signature phrase, “never say never,” suggesting that he remains open to the possibilities of political shifts in the future. Trump’s comments came amidst a backdrop of unconventional proposals he has made throughout his political career, including earlier suggestions about acquiring Greenland and redefining Gaza. While many supported Trump’s optimistic stance, others criticized his comments as outlandish or nonsensical. Carney’s strong rebuttal emphasized a commitment to partnership between the two nations instead of any notion of sale. the interaction highlighted the contrasting perspectives on U.S.-Canada relations, reflecting both Trump’s provocative style and Carney’s firm diplomatic posture.

President Donald Trump wasn’t taking “no” for an answer.

At an occasionally tense joint White House news conference Tuesday featuring Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, the prospect of the Great White North joining the United States as the 51st state was roundly rejected by the Canadian leader.

But Trump, at least publicly, wasn’t dissuaded.
