It&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/doge.gov\/savings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">publicizing<\/a> each cut &mdash; and opening Americans&rsquo; eyes to just how much taxpayer money has been wasted on programs that were pointless, redundant, or downright harmful.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In short, ordinary voters are finally getting to see what inside-the-Beltway conservatives have witnessed for decades: Government agencies almost never deliver on their promises.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-265049277\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Take, for instance, the abject failure of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI), which is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hcinnovationgroup.com\/policy-value-based-care\/news\/55287301\/house-republican-leaders-demand-change-in-focus-at-cmmi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">back in the news<\/a> after it announced the early cancellation of several initiatives that, if completed as scheduled, would have wasted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercehealthcare.com\/regulatory\/cmmi-cut-short-payment-models-estimates-750m-savings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$750 million<\/a> in taxpayer funds.<\/p>\n<p>Obamacare established CMMI and tasked the agency with finding new ways to reduce Medicare and Medicaid spending while improving care. A decade and a half later, CMMI has failed to achieve its goals &mdash; and thrown away billions of taxpayer dollars in the process.<\/p>\n<p>That&rsquo;s why President Trump and Congress should make ending CMMI their next big waste-cutting move.<\/p>\n<p>Just look at the numbers. CMMI <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gao.gov\/assets\/gao-18-302.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">employs<\/a> roughly 500 bureaucrats and receives <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbo.gov\/publication\/59612\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$10 billion<\/a> in mandatory funding each decade. With those resources, you&rsquo;d expect federal workers could find and fix some flaws in Medicare and Medicaid, which don&rsquo;t exactly have a reputation for unparalleled efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbo.gov\/publication\/59612\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">six of the 49<\/a> new care models it launched in its first <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >decade produced statistically significant savings<\/a>. And those savings have been meager compared to the enormous losses incurred by the center&rsquo;s failures.<\/p>\n<p>CMMI&rsquo;s biggest success, the Prior Authorization of Repetitive, Scheduled Non-Emergent Ambulance Transport model, was estimated to create <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbo.gov\/publication\/59612\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$1.1 billion<\/a> in net savings over five years. In contrast, just one of its failures &mdash; the Medicare Advantage Value-Based Insurance Design model &mdash; racked up losses of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cms.gov\/priorities\/innovation\/innovation-models\/medicare-advantage-value-based-insurance-design-model-frequently-asked-questions-about-end-model#:~:text=The%2520model's%2520cost%2520to%2520the,for%2520CMS%2520Innovation%2520Center%2520models.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">over four times<\/a> that amount in less than half the time.<\/p>\n<p>In total, rather than reducing spending by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbo.gov\/publication\/59612\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$2.8 billion<\/a> between 2011 and 2020, as the&nbsp;Congressional Budget Office predicted, CMMI <em>increased <\/em>net spending by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbo.gov\/publication\/59612\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$5.4 billion<\/a> during that time period. And it&rsquo;s projected to raise spending by at least another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbo.gov\/publication\/59612\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$1 billion<\/a> by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>If a company spent billions of dollars to implement 49 pilot programs and 43 of them failed to deliver results, it would be regarded as a catastrophic failure. Indeed, it&rsquo;d most likely be shut down long before compiling such an abysmal track record. America elected President Trump to bring that common sense and private-sector efficiency to government.<\/p>\n<p>CMMI has also frequently overstepped its authority. Instead of testing proposed reforms in small-scale settings, it has pushed sweeping, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/congress-misses-debt-ceiling-deadline-treasury-starts-extraordinary-cash-saving-measures-to-prevent-debt-default\/\" title=\"Congress Misses Debt Ceiling Deadline, Treasury Starts \u2018Extraordinary\u2019 Cash Saving Measures To Prevent Debt Default\">mandatory payment<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2016\/03\/11\/2016-05459\/medicare-program-part-b-drug-payment-model\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">changes<\/a> that affect patients across the nation. In many cases, it has skipped over legally required evaluations in order to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cms.gov\/priorities\/innovation\/innovation-models\/enhancing-oncology-model\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">extend<\/a> its failing policies.<\/p>\n<p>CMMI also displays a complete <a href=\"https:\/\/advisory.avalerehealth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Analysis-of-CMMI-Model-Costs-Quality-Performance-and-Transparency.pdf?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">disregard<\/a> for patients&rsquo; input or experiences. It rarely solicits feedback from the public. When doctors and experts on the <a href=\"https:\/\/aspe.hhs.gov\/collaborations-committees-advisory-groups\/ptac\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/advisory.avalerehealth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Analysis-of-CMMI-Model-Costs-Quality-Performance-and-Transparency.pdf?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suggested 14 policies<\/a> for CMMI to test, it rejected every single one.<\/p>\n<p>Unelected bureaucrats shouldn&rsquo;t be given free rein to run fruitless experiments on Americans&rsquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-issues-proclamation-for-world-suicide-prevention-day-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Biden issues proclamation for World Suicide Prevention Day - Washington Examiner\">health care &#038;mdash<\/a>; much less be allowed to squander billions of our taxpayer dollars to do it.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump and Congress can help rein in this waste and government overreach by putting an end to CMMI.
