The bill has sparked intense debate, with backing from transgender rights advocates and criticism from parental rights and religious groups. Amendments made during the committee session included the removal of a clause that could classify a parent&#8217;s use of &#8220;deadnaming&#8221; or misgendering a child as abuse in custody disputes. Despite these amendments, the bill would still label such actions as discriminatory under Colorado&#8217;s anti-discrimination laws. Advocates of the legislation have noted public feedback led to the removal of the controversial clause. It was amended to remove the controversial &ldquo;coercive control&rdquo; clause, which would have allowed judges to consider a parent&rsquo;s use of &ldquo;deadnaming&rdquo; or misgendering a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/children\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">child<\/a> as abuse when making custody decisions.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation would still make deadnaming and misgendering discriminatory actions under the state&rsquo;s anti-discrimination act. Another amendment removed some language from the legislation&rsquo;s shield provision, but would still shield parents from laws in other states that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/big-money-how-the-worlds-first-trans-billionaire-could-impact-tennessees-fight-to-protect-children\/\" title=\"Big Money: How The World\u2019s First Trans ...ionaire Could Impact Tennessee\u2019s Fight To Protect Children\">ban gender-related procedures<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Democratic sponsors of the bill pulled the &ldquo;coercive control&rdquo; clause, which was under Section 2 of the bill, after getting a lot of feedback from the public.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We know that a lot of the emails we&rsquo;ve been getting, a lot of the calls we have been getting have been focused on Section 2,&rdquo; one of the bill sponsors Sen. Faith Winter, D-Westminster, told the committee before the amendment to cut the clause from the bill was approved.<\/p>\n<p>The Colorado <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/catholicism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Catholic<\/a> Conference was one of the opposing organizations that testified against the legislation, saying the bill amounts to &ldquo;a codification of discrimination against faith-based and private institutions.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3396820\/100-day-report-card-war-on-woke-trump-dei-efforts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">100-DAY REPORT CARD: TRUMP MAKES GOOD ON PLEDGE TO RESTORE &lsquo;COMMON SENSE&rsquo; AND KILL DEI<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Each person should be treated with dignity, respect and compassion,&rdquo; CCC Executive Director Brittany Vessely testified,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.denvercatholic.org\/nearly-700-coloradans-sign-up-to-oppose-hb25-1312-in-marathon-capitol-hearing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to <em>Denver Catholic<\/em><\/a>. &ldquo;But HB1312 codifies discrimination against any institution &ndash; faith-based or private &ndash; and individual with a different belief about human sexuality, and forces them to conform to government-mandated beliefs about &lsquo;sexual orientation, gender identity and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-democrats-panic-abortion-amendment-isnt-silver-bullet-they-were-counting-on-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"New York Democrats panic abortion amendment isn\u2019t silver bullet they were counting on - Washington Examiner\">gender expression&#038;rsquo<\/a>;
