href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/09\/18\/media-democrats-blame-pro-lifers-after-the-abortion-pill-they-promote-killed-a-woman-and-her-babies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pin deaths <\/a>directly linked to the abortion pill on pro-life policies. Their lies and deceptions primarily centered on the story of Amber Thurman, a Georgia woman who&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/09\/20\/amber-thurman-died-from-the-abortion-pill-not-pro-life-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">died<\/a>&nbsp;alongside her twin babies after suffering complications stemming from the abortion pill.<\/p>\n<p>Thurman&rsquo;s death is no doubt <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/09\/20\/amber-thurman-died-from-the-abortion-pill-not-pro-life-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the direct result of a two-drug regimen<\/a> (mifepristone and misoprostol) responsible for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/article\/2022\/02\/medication-abortion-now-accounts-more-half-all-us-abortions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more than half of the nation&rsquo;s abortions<\/a>. Yet, outlets such as ProPublica skipped past mifepristone&rsquo;s known correlation with <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/33939340\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">serious adverse events<\/a>&nbsp;to insist that women who took the pills, such as Thurman and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/candi-miller-abortion-ban-death-georgia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Candi Miller<\/a>, lost their lives due to pro-life laws.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1340303075\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Years after Thurman&rsquo;s death, the harmful and sometimes fatal effects of mifepristone on women and their babies are no doubt still news. Yet, when the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/28\/study-rate-of-serious-or-life-threatening-complications-after-abortion-pill-is-22-times-higher-than-fda-claims\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&ldquo;largest known study of the abortion pill&rdquo;<\/a> debuted this week, showing the rate of serious or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nycs-top-doc-apologizes-for-describing-mothers-as-birthing-people\/\" title=\"NYC\u2019s Top Doc Apologizes for Describing Mothers as \u201cBirthing People\u201d\">life-threatening complications<\/a> after the abortion pill is <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/28\/study-rate-of-serious-or-life-threatening-complications-after-abortion-pill-is-22-times-higher-than-fda-claims\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">22 times<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/29\/largest-known-abortion-pill-study-shows-theyre-way-more-dangerous-than-we-knew\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">higher<\/a> than the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the mifepristone manufacturer Danco Laboratories suggest, the same outlets that <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/09\/20\/the-abortion-lies-kamala-will-spew-in-atlanta-are-the-ones-that-killed-amber-thurman-and-candi-miller\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spent months smearing<\/a> pro-life protections to advance Democrats&rsquo; radical abortion agenda were silent.<\/p>\n<p>Corporate media&rsquo;s blackout on a landmark study should not come as a shock.<\/p>\n<p>If the press truly cared about women like Thurman suffering and potentially dying, they would amplify news that tens of thousands of women who took the abortion pill over a seven-year period ended up with emergency room visits, sepsis, infections, follow-up surgeries, hemorrhage, or other complications. Instead, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/gop-lays-groundwork-to-pull-abortion-pill-access-with-new-junk-science-report_n_6812975be4b04cfa6e2b45e0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">little media attention<\/a> the wide-ranging analysis of mifepristone-related insurance claims has received was written off as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/gop-lays-groundwork-to-pull-abortion-pill-access-with-new-junk-science-report_n_6812975be4b04cfa6e2b45e0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&ldquo;junk science,&rdquo;<\/a> using quotes from abortion activists.<\/p>\n<p>The same outlets snubbing the new mifepristone study are the ones that routinely lament abortion limits, despite the fact that those better reflect <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/08\/look-how-even-democrat-opinion-shifts-on-abortion-laws-when-polls-stop-using-leftist-framing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Americans&rsquo; true feelings about abortion<\/a> than Democrats&rsquo; abortion through birth agenda. <\/p>\n<p>As Democrats&rsquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/09\/19\/democrats-abortion-extremism-would-not-be-possible-without-help-from-corporate-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">biggest abortion ally<\/a>, the press ignore mounting science about the dangers of mifepristone to pitch the abortion pill as a safe, effective, and easy way to end the life of an unborn child largely undetected. Shortly after the U.S. Supreme Court&rsquo;s <em>Dobbs v. Jackson<\/em> decision, the media even ran <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/10\/18\/illegal-abortion-pill-network\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">puff pieces<\/a> about the abortion activists smuggling abortion pills to women in red states. <\/p>\n<p>On the flip side, any mention of the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/13\/ny-ag-letitia-james-sues-pregnancy-centers-over-life-saving-abortion-pill-reversal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">legal battles<\/a> concerning <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">life-saving abortion pill reversal<\/a> or the movement to hold accountable abortionists who <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/12\/16\/republicans-serious-about-protecting-life-should-follow-texas-in-prosecuting-abortion-pill-outlaws\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">prescribe mifepristone to women in red states like Texas<\/a> without ever examining them is laden with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/abortion-pill-reversal-controversy-legal-battles-medical-debate-rcna159515\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hostility<\/a> from the media.<\/p>\n<p>The data about mifepristone&rsquo;s devastating effects on women and babies is clearer now than ever before and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/29\/fda-commissioner-faces-pressure-to-limit-abortion-pill-after-study-finds-increased-risks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">may even prompt action from the FDA.<\/a> But don&rsquo;t expect the corporate media to cover it well, if at all.<\/p>\n<p>The press, which prided itself on amplifying Thurman&rsquo;s story and the Harris-Walz campaign&rsquo;s use of it, only pretends to care about victims of the abortion pill if they can figure out a way to twist them to meet their political aims. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">      Jordan Boyd is a staff writer at The Federalist and producer of The Federalist Radio Hour.
