(AP Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The National Mall and Memorial Parks is conducting its annual tradition of commemorating Marian Anderson&rsquo;s &ldquo;seminal&rdquo; concert at the Lincoln Memorial this&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/easter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Easter<\/a>, with this year&rsquo;s holiday falling within&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/national-parks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Park Week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson&rsquo;s concert, performed in 1939, was conducted outside the Lincoln Memorial after the singer was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/articles\/000\/marian-anderson-and-constitution-hall.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">denied access to perform at Constitution Hall<\/a>, as Jim Crow laws were still in use within the United States. Ranger Bob Herendeen explained to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that Anderson&rsquo;s concert was performed on April 9, Easter Sunday in 1939, and that the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/national-park-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Mall and Memorial Parks&nbsp;<\/a>would perform a program on the history of Anderson and her seminal concert at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">national monument<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The program by the National Mall and Memorial Parks documents the history of Anderson&rsquo;s concert, including who Anderson was, her travels in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/europe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Europe<\/a>, and her return to the U.S., which included a visit to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">White House<\/a>&nbsp;during President Franklin D. Roosevelt&rsquo;s time in office. (AP Photo\/John Raby)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/national-parks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New River Gorge National Park &amp; Preserve<\/a>&nbsp;became the nation&rsquo;s newest&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/national-park-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Park<\/a>&nbsp;in 2020, but many Americans may not be familiar with it.<\/p>\n<p>Preserving 53 miles of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/nature\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;New River<\/a>, the park covers over 70,000 acres throughout the beautiful hills and mountains of southern&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/west-virginia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">West Virginia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The New River earned national river status in 1978, and Congress began talks of redesignating it as a National Park in 2018,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wvmetronews.com\/2024\/12\/18\/four-year-anniversary-of-the-new-river-gorge-national-park-and-preserve-soon-approaching\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a>&nbsp;to a report.
