Brent Money, which aims to establish equal legal protection for preborn babies, equating their value to that of born individuals. This would mean that individuals convicted of murdering a preborn child would face penalties equal to those for murdering a born person. Though, rather of supporting the bill, the Texas Alliance for Life, a prominent pro-life institution, opposed it, citing concerns that it would criminalize abortion for women. The article critiques this stance, suggesting that the organization’s actions result in a paradox where pro-life organizations inadvertently align with abortion advocates like Planned Parenthood, who expressed approval when the bill was pulled from consideration.

The article questions the integrity of pro-life organizations that resist measures to fully protect preborn children and highlights a broader pattern in various conservative states where similar equal protection bills face opposition. The author calls for introspection among pro-life supporters, challenging the alignment of organizations that claim to be pro-life yet act against comprehensive protection for the unborn. Ultimately, it urges a reevaluation of these organizations’ roles in the fight against abortion and the necessity to advocate for the abolition of abortion in every state.

When Planned Parenthood starts celebrating the work of a “pro-life” group, that group should start asking whether they are actually “pro-life,” rather than supporting the work of death.

That is exactly what happened last week in Texas, one of the most conservative states in the country, when a leading pro-life organization shockingly opposed a bill to abolish abortion.

Members of a Texas House committee were scheduled Tuesday to consider House Bill 2197, authored by Texas State Rep. No section of the bill prescribes a certain penalty for having an abortion. No section specifically singles out pregnant women for prosecution, either.

The bill merely says that existing homicide and assault laws should protect both preborn people and born people, because both are equally valuable and equally made in the image of God.

As with every other case of criminal law, judges and juries from that point can sort between victims and perpetrators, and they would be able to apply the appropriate level of punishment.

There will be some cases in which a woman is found to be the victim of an abuser or male partner who forces her to have an abortion. There will be others in which a woman is found to be a willful participant in an abortion. In such cases, she should face penalties, along with any other party to that murder, such as an abortion pill provider or a boyfriend who pays for the abortion.

Beyond countering House Bill 2197 to their supporters, Texas Alliance for Life staff members called Texas State Rep. John Smithee, the chair of the committee where the bill was scheduled to be heard, and moved him to pull the bill from the hearing. The lawmaker also said he faced pressure from Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows to pull the bill from the schedule. Pojman later called the coauthors of House Bill 2197 and tried to persuade them to stop sponsoring the bill.

Texas Alliance for Life was not the only group to celebrate when House Bill 2197 was abruptly removed from the schedule on the eve of the hearing. Planned Parenthood lauded the decision to pull House Bill 2197 and even tried to take credit for the decision made by Smithee.

That reality should provoke some serious introspection at Texas Alliance for Life, and some serious alarm among Texas conservatives and Christians who may be supporting that group.

When the largest abortion provider in the nation, which murders hundreds of thousands of preborn babies every single year, is supporting the work of an organization that claims to be “pro-life,” perhaps the supposed “pro-life” bona fides of that organization should be questioned.

Texas Alliance for Life indeed has an extensive record of opposing equal protection bills. This was evident last week in Texas, a highly conservative state, when a prominent pro-life group surprisingly opposed legislation aimed at abolishing abortion. A Texas House committee was set to review House Bill 2197, introduced by State Rep. Brent Money, which seeks equal protection for unborn babies. The bill’s core idea is straightforward: unborn children deserve the same legal protections as those who have been born since both are equally valuable and should be safeguarded from murder and assault under existing laws.

Brent Money has been an advocate for ending abortion in Texas and has worked diligently to fulfill his campaign promise of introducing this bill. However, instead of supporting this significant initiative against abortion, the Texas Alliance for Life—one of the largest pro-life organizations in the state—urged its followers to oppose it.

They claimed that House Bill 2197 would criminalize abortion for women and create barriers to seeking help while making it harder to combat illegal abortions. Their opposition stems from concerns that the bill would eliminate legal protections currently allowing mothers immunity if they choose to abort their unborn children.

Supporters of the bill argue that these loopholes contribute significantly to the high number of abortions occurring in Texas each year. Despite claims from opponents like Joe Pojman of Texas Alliance for Life labeling it as a “death penalty for women” measure, proponents assert that it simply aims to ensure equal protection under homicide laws without specifically targeting pregnant women.

The situation escalated when members of Texas Alliance for Life pressured lawmakers into withdrawing House Bill 2197 before its scheduled hearing—a move celebrated by Planned Parenthood but raising serious questions about the integrity and objectives of so-called pro-life organizations.

This incident highlights a troubling trend where leading pro-life groups appear more focused on maintaining their status quo than genuinely working towards ending abortion—a reality echoed across various states where similar protective measures have faced opposition even from Republican lawmakers aligned with pro-life values

[33651
32868,15322,37662,54404
post-2429670","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-western-journal","tag-abortion-rights","tag-op-ed","tag-planned-parenthood","tag-texas-pro-life
["GET
