Free argues that the election process was flawed and violated the DNC Charter, particularly regarding the fair depiction of women of color candidates. In response, Hogg&#8217;s attorneys contend that the election was conducted in accordance with established rules. The race came down to five candidates: Hogg and Malcolm Kenyatta, who ultimately won their seats, Free, and two other women.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;By aggregating votes across ballots and failing to distinguish between gender categories in a meaningful way, the DNC&rsquo;s process violated its own Charter and Bylaws, undermining both fairness and gender diversity,&rdquo; Free reportedly argued in her complaint.<\/p>\n<p>Hogg&rsquo;s attorneys have argued that his win &ldquo;was conducted in compliance with the rules in place at the time&rdquo; and that it is &ldquo;inappropriate to try to revise those rules or decisions after the fact through a credentials challenge.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The 25-year-old gun control activist has received some backlash over his primary initiative to spend $20 million on electing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/3392092\/young-democrats-crave-change-dnc-david-hogg-ken-martin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">younger politicians<\/a> over longtime Democratic incumbents through his organization, Leaders We Deserve. DNC Chairman Ken Martin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/3389884\/dnc-chairman-rebukes-david-hogg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">denounced<\/a> Hogg&rsquo;s move, saying, &ldquo;No DNC officer should ever attempt to influence the outcome of a primary election.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/3382882\/democrats-search-new-targets-party-divide-age-david-hogg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong>PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRATS SEARCH FOR NEW TARGETS IN PARTY DIVIDED OVER AGE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Still, Martin told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that Hogg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/3390460\/dnc-chairman-ken-martin-david-hogg-democratic-primary-challenges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">would not be removed<\/a> from his post for doing so.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;That&rsquo;s not my intention here. I like David Hogg.
