(AP Photo\/Yuki Iwamura)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&ldquo;The two weeks of detention so far demonstrate great harm to a person who has been charged with no crime,&rdquo; said U.S. District Judge Geoffrey Crawford, an appointee of former President Barack Obama, according to ABC News. &ldquo;Mr. Mahdawi, I will order you released.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Crawford&rsquo;s order allows Mahdawi to be released on bail, pending the final outcome of his case in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/federal-court-is-fast-tracking-sidney-powells-request-for-a-forensic-exam-of-dominion-voting-machines\/\" title=\"Federal Court Is Fast-Tracking Sidney Powell\u2019s Request For A Forensic Exam Of Dominion Voting Machines\">federal court<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The government cited national security concerns in seeking to keep him in custody.<\/p>\n<p>Secretary of State Marco Rubio justified the arrest in a DHS notice, stating Mahdawi&rsquo;s &ldquo;presence and activities&rdquo; in the United States would pose &ldquo;serious adverse foreign policy consequences.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors also alleged Mahdawi had expressed support for antisemitic violence and had &ldquo;an interest in and facility with firearms for that purpose,&rdquo; according to sealed government filings seen by NBC.<\/p>\n<p>Originally from the al Fara&rsquo;a refugee camp in the West Bank, Mahdawi immigrated to the U.S. more than a decade ago and began studying at Columbia in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I am saying it clear and loud to President Trump and his Cabinet: I am not afraid of you,&rdquo; Mahdawi said outside the courtroom after his release, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/judge-orders-columbia-student-mohsen-mahdawi-released-rcna203675\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">according<\/a> to NBC News.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration has stepped up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-administration-limits-arrest-of-illegal-immigrants-at-courthouses\/\" title=\"Biden Administration Limits Arrest of Illegal Immigrants at Courthouses\">immigration enforcement actions<\/a> against Middle Eastern students tied to pro-Palestinian demonstrations. Mahdawi is the second Columbia student in recent weeks to face detention. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3391851\/mahmoud-khalil-arrest-warrant-department-of-homeland-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong>TRUMP ADMINISTRATION DIDN&rsquo;T HAVE ARREST WARRANT FOR MAHMOUD KHALIL, CITING &lsquo;FLIGHT RISK&rsquo;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mahmoud Khalil, a graduate student who led protests against the war in Gaza, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3391851\/mahmoud-khalil-arrest-warrant-department-of-homeland-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">arrested<\/a> at his New York apartment on March 8.
