Pete Aguilar (D-CA), a senior Democratic leader in the House, has dismissed calls from within his party to impeach President Donald Trump for a third time, advocating rather for other forms of political resistance. Speaking to reporters, Aguilar characterized discussions of impeachment as impractical, echoing sentiments from other Democrats who have labeled such efforts as &#8220;stupid politics.&#8221; He emphasized that Democrats should focus on policy issues that resonate with the public rather than pursuing impeachment, which he believes would be futile given the current Republican majority in congress. <\/p>\n<p>Aguilar&#8217;s comments come in the context of ongoing attempts by some Democrats, such as Reps. Shri Thanedar and Al Green, to file articles of impeachment against Trump, citing reasons like abuse of power. This president is no stranger to that; he&rsquo;s been impeached twice,&rdquo; Aguilar said. &ldquo;But we don&rsquo;t have any confidence that House and Senate Republicans would do their jobs. And so this is not an exercise that we&rsquo;re willing to undertake.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Although his colleagues, such as&nbsp;Reps. <span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">Shri Thanedar (D-MI) and Al Green (D-TX)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3311981\/trump-new-impeachment-articles-gaza\/\" target=\"_blank\">have pushed efforts<\/a>&nbsp;to impeach the president. Aguilar said Democrats would be bett<\/span>er off focusing on policy &mdash; &ldquo;items that the American public is paying attention to.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Right now, we will deal with the tools in front of us,&rdquo; the congressman said. &ldquo;The policies that he and House Republicans have placed forward &mdash; which are reckless cuts to the healthcare system, to our supplemental nutrition that is relied on by women and children and families across this country &mdash; those are the policies that we&rsquo;re going to push back against.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Aguilar&rsquo;s attempt to shut down impeachment as a form of Trump resistance comes after Thanedar<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3393882\/shri-thanedar-files-trump-impeachment-articles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> filed the first articles of impeachment of the president&rsquo;s second term<\/a> on Monday. The Michigan Democrat filed seven articles for alleged abuse of power, constitutional violations, and tyranny.<\/p>\n<p>In a Republican-controlled Congress, Thanedar and Green&rsquo;s attempts aren&rsquo;t likely to go anywhere. Still, they could pose a distraction from Democrats&rsquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/3356762\/democrats-reality-unpopular-policies-electoral-math-midterm-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">attempts to steer their party back<\/a> in the right direction after suffering political blows last fall.<\/p>\n<p>Previous attempts to impeach Trump have ultimately fallen short twice. The House voted to impeach Trump in 2019 before the Senate acquitted him the following year. In January 2021, the House again voted to impeach Trump, blaming him for the chaos of Jan. 6. Their desperate impeachment stunt is nothing more than a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dems-try-to-dodge-trump-impeachment-talk-stupid-politics\/\" title=\"Dems try to dodge ... ...ment talk: \u2018Stupid politics\u2019\">reckless political act<\/a> that the American people see right through,&rdquo; a spokesperson said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The president&rsquo;s team is already seriously considering a reality where he could face another impeachment inquiry should Democrats take back the House majority during the 2026 midterms, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/04\/29\/trump-impeachment-house-democrats-2026-elections\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">per<\/a> <em>Axios<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>Top Trump allies are using the possibility as a way to fuel the GOP&rsquo;s efforts to pass Trump&rsquo;s agenda, including tax cuts. <\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/3356762\/democrats-reality-unpopular-policies-electoral-math-midterm-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">DEMOCRATS FACE GLOOMY REALITY AS UNPOPULAR POLICIES BLEED INTO ELECTORAL MATH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We need to pass the tax cuts and avoid a recession,&rdquo; Trump&rsquo;s longtime pollster, John McLaughlin, told the outlet. &ldquo;That&rsquo;s the high stakes here.
