After all, Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/harsanyi-justice-thomas-pro-second-amendment-argument-huge-win-constitution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clarence Thomas&rsquo;<\/a> brilliant majority opinion in the 2022 gun-rights case New York State Rifle &amp; Pistol Association Inc. v. Bruen made clear that American citizens need not beg government officials for special exemptions in order to exercise their constitutional right to bear arms.<\/p>\n<p>Alas, Monday&rsquo;s decision represents merely the latest illustration of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/federal-judges-no-longer-required-to-disclose-dining-and-lodging-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Federal judges no longer required to disclose dining and lodging - Washington Examiner\">federal judiciary&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s growing hostility to Americans&rsquo; freedom.<\/p>\n<p>In June, for instance, SCOTUS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/supreme-court-sides-biden-admin-deal-crushing-blow-free-speech-alitos-scathing-dissent-must-read\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ruled<\/a> 6-3 that a group of Republican state attorneys general and private citizens lacked standing to sue now-former President Joe Biden&rsquo;s administration for its tyrannical online censorship activities during the COVID scare of 2020-21.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;For months, high-ranking Government officials placed unrelenting pressure on to suppress Americans&rsquo; free speech. Because the Court unjustifiably refuses to address this serious threat to the First Amendment, I respectfully dissent,&rdquo; Justice Samuel Alito wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Now, once again, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/betrayed-scotus-upholds-biden-era-anti-2a-ruling-roberts-coney-barrett-werent-defectors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SCOTUS<\/a> has refused to address a serious threat to the Second Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>In some ways, of course, that refusal should not surprise us at all. For instance, nominally conservative Chief Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/lone-dissenter-chief-justice-roberts-enraged-8-1-win-first-amendment-advocates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Roberts<\/a> regularly votes against freedom. Likewise, Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/justice-amy-barrett-stuns-conservatives-denies-request-block-indiana-universitys-vaccine-mandate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amy Coney Barrett<\/a> amounts to little more than a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">pro-life woke liberal<\/a>. The establishment can generally rely on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/roberts-coney-barrett-defect-force-trump-admin-spend-money-us-doesnt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">support from both<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the same hostility to freedom and the Constitution infects much of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/judge-boasberg-laying-foundation-hold-trump-administration-contempt-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">federal judiciary<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That poses a serious problem in light of the Second Amendment&rsquo;s clear meaning.<\/p>\n<p>The phrase &ldquo;shall not be infringed&rdquo; leaves little room for interpretation. If &ldquo;infringe&rdquo; meant &ldquo;destroy,&rdquo; then one could make an argument for gun-control laws short of confiscation. But &ldquo;infringe&rdquo; means &ldquo;limit.&rdquo; Thus, the government cannot even limit the free citizen&rsquo;s exercise of the right to bear arms.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, too many Americans mistakenly regard the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/230th-anniversary-ratification-upholding-bill-rights-important-now-ever\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bill of Rights<\/a> as a grant from the government to the people. But it is not. Instead, it functions &mdash; or should function &mdash; as a hard limit on government power.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, people of good will can agree that we do not want guns in certain places. Kindergarten classrooms leap to mind. The problem, however, is that laws have no effect on people with evil intent who would carry guns into such places. So the solution has nothing to do with more laws. Instead of unconstitutional infringements, perhaps we should consider protecting our children the way we protect our money.<\/p>\n<p>In short, if the government lacks the power to infringe upon our rights, then it certainly lacks the power to infringe upon those rights on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/virginia-supreme-court-rules-state-can-take-down-confederate-statue\/\" title=\"Virginia Supreme Court Rules State Can Take Down Confederate Statue\">state-owned property<\/a>. Unfortunately, this ruling exemplifies the increasing hostility of the federal judiciary towards individual freedoms.<\/p>\n<p>In June, SCOTUS ruled against Republican state attorneys general and private citizens who attempted to sue former President Biden\u2019s administration for its censorship during COVID-19, with Justice Samuel Alito expressing dissent over the court&#8217;s refusal to address First Amendment violations.<\/p>\n<p>Once again, SCOTUS has declined to confront a significant threat against Second Amendment rights\u2014a trend not entirely unexpected given Chief Justice John Roberts&#8217; frequent opposition to freedom and Justice Amy Coney Barrett&#8217;s alignment with establishment views.<\/p>\n<p>This poses a serious issue considering that &#8220;shall not be infringed&#8221; leaves little room for interpretation regarding Second Amendment rights; any limitation on these rights is unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, many Americans mistakenly view the Bill of Rights as permissions granted by government rather than as restrictions on governmental power. While there may be consensus against guns in certain areas like schools, laws do little against those with malicious intent; thus more laws are not an effective solution.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, if government cannot infringe upon our rights anywhere\u2014including state-owned property\u2014then it must meet high standards before limiting American freedoms.
