This follows the signing of a new law by Governor Jared Polis that bans the sale and purchase of most semiautomatic rifles. The Colorado State Shooting Association argues that the new regulations impose significant barriers, particularly on low-income individuals, and that many counties have declared themselves &#8220;Second Amendment Sanctuaries&#8221; in response. The law includes provisions for a firearms safety course, but places participants&#8217; information in a state database, raising concerns among advocates. Supporters of the legislation assert it will enhance community safety, while opponents contend it is a purposeful effort to undermine citizens\u2019 rights to bear arms. Jared Polis (D-CO) that seemingly bans most semiautomatic rifles.<\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/beltway-confidential\/3378144\/colorado-pushes-toward-de-facto-gun-registry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> sale or purchase <\/a>of a &ldquo;specified semiautomatic firearm&rdquo; is barred starting Aug. 1, according to Colorado&rsquo;s Senate Bill 3. The definitions for such firearms include: &ldquo;A semiautomatic rifle or semiautomatic shotgun with a detachable magazine&rdquo; and &ldquo;a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-concerned-as-committee-considers-ban-on-certain-semi-auto-firearms-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Republicans concerned as committee considers ban on certain semi-auto firearms - Washington Examiner\">gas-operated semiautomatic handgun<\/a> with a detachable magazine.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>A carveout for individuals who successfully complete a state-sanctioned firearms safety course is included in the law, but permitted individuals must renew their &ldquo;firearms safety course eligibility card&rdquo; every five years with a sheriff&rsquo;s authorization.<\/p>\n<p>All holders of an eligibility card will have their information placed in a state database, the report noted.<\/p>\n<p>Myriad gun control measures enacted by Colorado are referenced in the letter, noting that at least 37 counties in the state have &ldquo;declared themselves to be &lsquo;Second Amendment Sanctuaries,&rsquo; in an attempt to oppose or resist the state&rsquo;s efforts to undermine or effectively deny their rights.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Along with the letter, &ldquo;tens of thousands of signatures&rdquo; have been collected by voters to be sent to federal officials, Colorado State Shooting Association Executive Director Huey Laugesen said.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;When we have government coming in and putting in insurmountable obstacles for a lot of people, and particularly low-income individuals who are much more likely to be victimized by violent criminals, that&rsquo;s a major problem.
