I&rsquo;ll make an exception for GOP Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri, however.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Hawley introduced a bill that would ban members of Congress and their immediate family <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trumps-buy-now-insider-trading-fake-news-compared-years-lawmakers-real-insider-trading\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">from stock-trading while they were in office<\/a>. He&rsquo;d previously introduced the bill in 2023, but it got shot down.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Members of Congress should be fighting for the people they were elected to serve &mdash; not day trading at the expense of their constituents,&rdquo; Hawley told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/hawley-reignites-pelosi-act-push-ban-lawmakers-from-trading-stocks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Americans have seen politician after politician turn a profit using information not available to the general public. (Not that congresspeople usually need help accumulating money, but this at least takes away one of the more unsavory ways they accrue it.)<\/p>\n<p>Current lawmakers and newly elected Congress members would have 180 days to come into compliance with the act, if it passes and is signed into law. Violators would be fined 10 percent for each unlawful transaction and would be required to forfeit all profits to the Treasury Department.<\/p>\n<p>If it passes Congress, the president is all for signing it.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I watched Nancy Pelosi get rich through insider information, and I would be OK with it.
