He reportedly registered and cast his ballot at a &#8220;get out the vote&#8221; event organized by Democrat supporters at the university. Gao&#8217;s involvement in this situation led to charges of false swearing to register to vote and attempting to vote as an unqualified elector. <\/p>\n<p>Gao did not appear for a scheduled court date, prompting the issuance of a bench warrant for his arrest. his prosecutor, Eli Savit, confirmed the warrant and indicated that the case would proceed once Gao is apprehended. <\/p>\n<p>Reports suggest that gao was encouraged to vote and was misinformed about his eligibility. After voting, he posted about it on a Chinese social media app, further complicating the situation. Now he faces a warrant for his arrest.<\/p>\n<p>University of Michigan student Haoxiang Gao &mdash; who goes by &ldquo;Neil&rdquo; &mdash; allegedly cast his ballot on Oct. 27 despite being a noncitizen, as The Federalist previously reported. He now faces two <a href=\"https:\/\/micourt.courts.michigan.gov\/case-search\/court\/D15\/case-details?caseId=2024-24F5-5687-FY-01&amp;tenantKey=D15-81-0620133-00-00&amp;searchUrl=%2Fcourt%2FD15%2Fsearch%3FlastName%3DHaoxiang%26page%3D1\">felony<\/a> charges: false swearing to register to vote and trying to vote as an unqualified elector. According to court records, his <a href=\"https:\/\/micourt.courts.michigan.gov\/case-search\/court\/D15\/case-details?caseId=2024-24F5-5687-FY-01&amp;tenantKey=D15-81-0620133-00-00&amp;searchUrl=%2Fcourt%2FD15%2Fsearch%3FlastName%3DHaoxiang%26page%3D1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">probable cause conference<\/a> was set for April 24 &mdash; but Gao never showed.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-117517932\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&ldquo;BENCH WARRANT ISSUED &mdash; FAILED TO APPEAR,&rdquo; read <a href=\"https:\/\/micourt.courts.michigan.gov\/case-search\/court\/D15\/case-details?caseId=2024-24F5-5687-FY-01&amp;tenantKey=D15-81-0620133-00-00&amp;searchUrl=%2Fcourt%2FD15%2Fsearch%3FlastName%3DHaoxiang%26page%3D1\">records<\/a> from the day of the hearing. A bench warrant directs police to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/wex\/bench_warrant#:~:text=A%20bench%20warrant%20is%20a,been%20filed%20against%20the%20defendant.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">arrest<\/a> a defendant for skipping out on court.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I can confirm that Mr. Gao failed to appear for his last court date and that a bench warrant has been issued for his arrest,&rdquo; Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit told The Federalist. &ldquo;Once he is in custody, the case will proceed in the normal course. And we will continue to prosecute it to the fullest extent of the law.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Savit said efforts to locate suspects are &ldquo;generally led by law-enforcement&rdquo; and his office &ldquo;wouldn&rsquo;t be able to comment on such matters in any event as it would involve an investigation into a person&rsquo;s whereabouts.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Voting in American Elections<\/h2>\n<p>Gao allegedly registered and voted from a &ldquo;get out the vote&rdquo; station in the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA) ahead of November&rsquo;s election, as The Federalist previously reported. And, as The College Fix previously reported, the center was run by Democrat donors as a &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecollegefix.com\/u-michigan-art-museum-sets-up-election-office-with-button-making-station-costume-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">one-stop-shop<\/a>&rdquo; for boosting voter turnout.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Documents obtained by <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">public records request suggest volunteers<\/a> at the center <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/01\/how-a-democrat-donor-led-voting-group-allegedly-pushed-a-chinese-national-to-cast-his-ballot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pushed<\/a> Gao to vote. Gao&rsquo;s roommate, a Chinese freshman named Nan Xiang, saw him fill out the voter registration, according to a police report by UM Police Sgt. Ryan Cavanaugh.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Nan was surprised that the person did not even ask if he was a United States citizen prior to giving him the Michigan Voter Registration Application,&rdquo; the report stated. &ldquo;Nan thought that &lsquo;Neil was all good&rsquo; as he completed the application while following the staff member into the voting area.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In Gao&rsquo;s personal account, he said he <a href=\"https:\/\/enjoyer.com\/university-michigan-chinese-student-voted-us-citizen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">thought<\/a>, &ldquo;I am a citizen, and I can vote,&rdquo; according to the Michigan Enjoyer. As The Federalist previously <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/01\/how-a-democrat-donor-led-voting-group-allegedly-pushed-a-chinese-national-to-cast-his-ballot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, Professors Hannah Smotrich and Stephanie Rowden &mdash; who co-lead the &ldquo;Creative Campus Voting Project,&rdquo; which was involved in get-out-the-vote efforts at UMMA &mdash; have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/donor-lookup\/results?name=Hannah+smotrich&amp;order=desc&amp;sort=D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">given<\/a> more than $17,000 total to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/donor-lookup\/results?name=stephanie+rowden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Democrats<\/a> and left-wing causes.<\/p>\n<p>But beforehand, Gao allegedly <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/01\/how-a-democrat-donor-led-voting-group-allegedly-pushed-a-chinese-national-to-cast-his-ballot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mentioned<\/a> voting to his roommate, according to the police report, and after Gao allegedly voted, the two returned to their dorm room, where &ldquo;Neil posted something on a Chinese app &hellip; to the effect that he voted.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Nan stated that Neil&rsquo;s consultant from the app is the one who informed Neil that it was illegal for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-biden-immigration-orders-seek-to-reverse-trumps-policies-streamline-naturalization-process\/\" title=\"New Biden Immigration Orders Seek To Reverse Trump\u2019s Policies, Streamline Naturalization Process\">green card holder<\/a> to vote,&rdquo; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/community-outraged-cop-who-shot-pup-in-front-of-its-family-is-found-to-be-behind-the-death-of-another-dog\/\" title=\"Community Outraged: Cop Who Shot Pup in Front of Its Family Is Found to Be Behind the Death of Another Dog\">police officer&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s report stated. When the officer questioned Nan &ldquo;about this &lsquo;consultant,&rsquo;&rdquo; he &ldquo;couldn&rsquo;t explain who this consultant was.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The roommate showed Cavanaugh the app, which &ldquo;was green and white in color with two &lsquo;comment bubbles&rsquo; with eyes in each one,&rdquo; according to the report.&nbsp; While the specific app has not been confirmed, its description is similar to the Chinese app WeChat &mdash; a popular &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/if-the-us-bans-tiktok-wechat-might-be-next\/#:~:text=US%2Downed%20messaging%20apps%2C%20including,active%20users%20in%20the%20US.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">social messaging and payments platform<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>A judge later signed a search warrant for Gao&rsquo;s phone, which was &ldquo;executed&rdquo; on Nov. 11, according to official documents.
