In a letter to FBI Director Kash Patel,Grassley highlighted the need for openness,emphasizing the document&#8217;s connection to a criminal referral regarding Ohr&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cruz-responds-to-faucis-attack-on-him-in-scathing-statement-doubles-down-on-call-for-criminal-probe\/\" title=\"Cruz Responds To Fauci\u2019s Attack On Him In Scathing Statement, Doubles Down On Call For Criminal Probe\">alleged false statements<\/a> to Congress that obstructed investigations into the Crossfire Hurricane inquiry. <\/p>\n<p>Nellie Ohr,who worked for the opposition research firm Fusion GPS during the 2016 election,was involved in creating content for the Steele dossier,which contained unsubstantiated allegations against donald Trump. Her husband, Bruce Ohr, was a senior DOJ official at the time, and he received research material from Nellie, which he reportedly passed on to the FBI. Grassley\u2019s request aligns with prior executive orders aimed at declassifying materials related to the Russia collusion claims, asserting that the low-level classification of the document does not justify its continued secrecy. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, asked the FBI on Monday to declassify a document related to the actions of a prominent player in the agency&rsquo;s baseless Russia collusion hoax.<\/p>\n<p>In his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grassley.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/grassley_to_fbi_-_nellie_ohr_declassification.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a> addressed to FBI Director Kash Patel, the Hawkeye State&rsquo;s senior senator requested Patel to declassify a &ldquo;mostly unclassified&rdquo; FBI analysis of a congressional criminal referral related to &ldquo;Nellie Ohr&rsquo;s false statements to Congress, which obstructed congressional investigations&rdquo; into the inquiry known as <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/15\/unsealed-crossfire-hurricane-docs-further-prove-russiagate-was-a-hoax-all-along\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Crossfire Hurricane<\/a>. Grassley sent the communique in his capacity as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1317724506\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>During the 2016 cycle, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/nellie-ohr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nellie Ohr<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2017\/12\/13\/fusion-gps-paid-top-doj-officials-wife-dig-dirt-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">worked<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/fusion-gps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fusion GPS<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">opposition research firm hired<\/a> by the Hillary Clinton campaign&rsquo;s law firm to dig up dirt on Donald Trump ahead of the November contest. Through its hiring of ex-British spy <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/christopher-steele\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Christopher Steele<\/a>, Fusion GPS ultimately compiled what became known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/15\/unsealed-crossfire-hurricane-docs-further-prove-russiagate-was-a-hoax-all-along\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Steele dossier<\/a> &mdash; a series of memoranda containing bunk and salacious allegations against Trump that were later used by the FBI to obtain a warrant to spy on the Trump campaign.<\/p>\n<p>It was <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/rTUWc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">during<\/a> her time working for Fusion GPS that Nellie&rsquo;s husband, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/bruce-ohr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bruce Ohr<\/a>, was <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2019\/01\/17\/top-mueller-officials-coordinated-with-fusion-gps-spouse-in-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">serving<\/a> as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/notes-indicate-that-strzok-pushed-falsehood-on-trump-russia-inquiry-origin-in-2017\/\" title=\"Notes Indicate That Strzok Pushed Falsehood on Trump-... Inquiry Origin in 2017\">associate deputy attorney general<\/a> at the Department of Justice. In late 2017, Fusion GPS co-founder <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/glenn-simpson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Glenn Simpson<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2017\/12\/12\/fusion-gps-confirms-hiring-doj-officials-wife-to-investigate-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claimed<\/a> in court filings he met with Bruce &ldquo;after the November 2016 election to discuss our findings regarding Russia and the election.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>As The Federalist&rsquo;s Margot Cleveland <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2019\/04\/08\/nellie-ohrs-research-used-fisa-applications-surveil-trump-campaign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, Bruce confirmed in prior congressional testimony that &ldquo;after the FBI launched an investigation into the Trump campaign, his wife handed him a flash drive consisting of the Trump-Russia research she had compiled for Fusion GPS. Bruce passed Nellie&rsquo;s opposition-funded research on to the FBI.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>As previously indicated, Nellie was the subject of a referral sent to the DOJ by then-Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., in May 2019. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/591880\/mark-meadows-sends-criminal-referral-targeting-nellie-ohr-to-doj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Washington Examiner<\/a>, the former congressman cited &ldquo;concerns that Ohr &lsquo;knowingly provided false testimony&rsquo; last year to a joint task force of the House Oversight and Judiciary committees that were investigating decisions made by the Justice Department and FBI surrounding the 2016 election.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;During her transcribed interview, Ms. Ohr testified she &lsquo;would not have any knowledge of what [was] going on in an ongoing investigation&rsquo; at DOJ and would not &lsquo;have any knowledge of the Department of Justice&rsquo;s investigations on Russia.&rsquo; Ms. Ohr also denied she shared her research on Russian organized crime and Donald Trump with individuals outside of Fusion GPS (her employer); her husband, DOJ attorney Bruce Ohr, and Christopher Steele,&rdquo; the referral reads. &ldquo;However, documents reviewed by our committees raise concerns Ms. Ohr not only had knowledge of an ongoing DOJ investigation, but that she shared information and research on Russian organized crime to assist DOJ, in direct contradiction with her testimony.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In his letter to Patel, Grassley noted that the aforementioned FBI analysis of the referral &ldquo;provides background with respect to Crossfire Hurricane&rsquo;s origins as well as the criminal case against Nellie Ohr.&rdquo; He further requested a &ldquo;full declassification&rdquo; of the document, citing the &ldquo;very low level of classification&rdquo; surrounding the analysis and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-rules-ca-gov-overstepped-his-authority-with-covid-order-issues-permanent-injunction-restraining-newsom-from-further-issuing-unconstitutional-orders\/\" title=\"Judge Rules CA Gov Overstepped His Authority with Covid Order, Issues Permanent Injunction Restraining Newsom From Further Issuing Unconstitutional Orders\">executive orders issued<\/a> by Trump regarding declassification of Russia collusion hoax-related materials, among other reasons. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Declassification of the document in full would be consistent with past practices and to the benefit of public transparency and accountability.
