Political leaders across the spectrum expressed their condolences, emphasizing solidarity with the Filipino community.

New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh had visited the festival shortly before the incident and voiced his heartbreak over the loss of life. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Kai-Ji Adam Lo, has been charged with multiple counts of second-degree murder, with initial reports suggesting his actions may have been linked to underlying mental health issues.

In light of the tragedy, Prime Minister Mark Carney canceled campaign events to address the nation and offer support to the affected families, while Conservative Leader pierre Poilievre and bloc Quebecois leader Yves-Francois Blanchet also extended their sympathies.

Vancouver’s interim police chief described the day as “the darkest” in the city’s history, highlighting the need for further examination into the motives behind the attack. The incident occurred just before Canada’s federal elections, prompting a solemn mood among the candidates as they continued their campaigns amid a national tragedy. The ages of the victims ranged from 5 to 65, and authorities expect the death toll may rise as some victims remain unidentified.

Canadian election campaigns end on somber note after Vancouver massacre

OTTAWA, Canada — The “darkest day” in Vancouver’s history muted Canadian politicians’ plans for a final surge ahead of the Monday election as all major parties expressed condolences to the victims of the recent massacre.

A man crashed his SUV through a Filipino street festival on Saturday night, killing at least 11 people during the Lapu Lapu Day celebration.

Recommended Stories

North Korea confirms it dispatched troops to Russia to support its war against Ukraine

Bloc Quebecois wants to free Quebec from ‘artificial country’ of Canada

Mike Waltz says Trump’s Zelensky meeting is latest step to ending ‘meat-grinder’ war

New Democratic Party Leader Jagmeet Singh made a campaign stop at the festival on Saturday, leaving just minutes before the violence unfolded.
