The couple&#8217;s residence in Las Cruces was raided by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as part of a Homeland Security examination. Joel Cano is facing charges of evidence tampering, while Nancy Cano has been charged with conspiracy to tamper.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">alleged gang member<\/a> had been initially arrested in February when firearms were found in the home, and he has since claimed that these guns belonged to the Cano&#8217;s daughter. Orders Detention for Alleged Proud Boy Whose Lawyer Blames Trump for Capitol Incident\">alleged member<\/a> of the transnational <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/armed-tren-de-aragua-thugs-mobbing-border-checkpoints-force-way-inauguration-day-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tren de Aragua<\/a> gang.<\/p>\n<p>In a Tuesday ruling from the New Mexico Supreme Court, Cano was barred from ever holding judicial office in the state again.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/ex-new-mexico-judge-wife-arrested-allegedly-harboring-illegal-tren-de-aragua-member\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>, Ortega-Lopez was initially apprehended at the residence in February. Four firearms &mdash; which Ortega-Lopez appeared in social media posts brandishing &mdash; were also found and seized at the home of April Cano, the couple&rsquo;s daughter.<\/p>\n<p>Ortega-Lopez, who faces up to 15 years in prison for being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm, claimed that the guns belonged to the Cano daughter.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of Ortega-Lopez&rsquo;s arrest, Nancy Cano said that the alleged <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/foreign-government-helping-facilitate-tren-de-aragua-crime-wave-america-fbi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TdA<\/a> member was staying in the couple&rsquo;s guesthouse after he was initially hired to do home repairs.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents indicate that Ortega-Lopez illegally entered the country via Eagle Pass, Texas, on Dec. 15, 2023. He was neither inspected nor authorized to enter but released on Dec. 18, 2023 because of overcrowding at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/border-patrol-agent-killed-line-duty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Border Patrol<\/a> facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Removal proceedings were pending, and he was issued a so-called Notice to Appear, which would have initiated removal proceedings before an immigration court.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Do&ntilde;a Ana County has been a hotbed of illegal immigration and drug trafficking, human smuggling for many, many years,&rdquo; former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/f-peter-brown-bidens-nominee-immigration-customs-enforcement-enforcement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ICE<\/a> Field Office Director John Fabbricatore said.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;To see that a judge would allow this to happen. It&rsquo;s very concerning. It&rsquo;s concerning. What else has the judge been doing?&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Republican Party of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/gov-abbott-fortifies-texas-new-mexico-border-lone-star-troops-put-razor-wire-near-state-line\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Mexico<\/a> also hailed the arrest.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The people of New Mexico are tired of a system where the powerful don&rsquo;t play by their own rules,&rdquo; said Amy Barela, chairwoman of the state party.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We demand real accountability for Judge Cano&rsquo;s connection to a gang-affiliated criminal and full transparency on how our judiciary is being held to the same laws as the rest of us.
