He admitted to 21 counts of first-degree murder &mdash; three for each victim killed &mdash; and dozens of counts of attempted murder and aggravated battery.<\/p>\n<p>The plea followed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/highland-park-shooter-pleads-not-guilty-100-charges-walking-back-previous-admission\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tumultuous legal journey<\/a>. In June 2024, Crimo backed out of an earlier plea deal at the last minute, leaving victims&rsquo; families devastated after they had prepared to face him in court.<\/p>\n<p>The Highland Park shooting occurred on July 4, 2022, when Crimo opened fire from a rooftop during the parade.
