Incidentally, Pope Francis made his last public appearance on Easter Sunday in St. Peter&rsquo;s Square, a surprise and unexpected greeting to the estimated crowd of more than 35,000 people. He rode through the piazza in his popemobile. Several days later he was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia and was in the hospital for 38 days, according to multiple reports. After his stay in the hospital, Pope Francis returned to his residence at the Casa Santa Marta to continue his recovery.<\/p>\n<p>Pope Francis was born as Jorge Mario Bergoglio on Dec. 17, 1936 in Bueno Aires, Argentina. He was elected pope on March 13, 2013 and took the papal name of Francis.
