<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1873295299\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>A state-owned telecommunications giant, China Mobile was <a href=\"https:\/\/media.defense.gov\/2025\/Jan\/07\/2003625471\/-1\/-1\/1\/ENTITIES-IDENTIFIED-AS-CHINESE-MILITARY-COMPANIES-OPERATING-IN-THE-UNITED-STATES.PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">flagged<\/a> by the Pentagon earlier this year for having ties to Beijing&rsquo;s military. In 2019, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/deepseek-coding-capability-transfer-users-data-directly-chinese\/story?id=118465451\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">prohibited<\/a> the firm from operating within the U.S. over concerns that &ldquo;unauthorized access to customer &hellip; data could create irreparable damage to U.S. national security.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>The FCC subsequently added China Mobile to its list of &ldquo;national security threats&rdquo; in 2022, according to ABC News. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;While the extent of data transmission remains unconfirmed, DeepSeek&rsquo;s integration with China Mobile infrastructure raises serious concerns about potential foreign access to Americans&rsquo; private information,&rdquo; the House analysis reads. &ldquo;By relying on China Mobile&rsquo;s infrastructure, DeepSeek ensures that Americans&rsquo; data is stored and transmitted through networks controlled by the Chinese government.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Among the data DeepSeek reportedly collects from users who utilize its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/think\/topics\/chatbots\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">chatbot<\/a> function are their &ldquo;chat history, device details, and even the way a person types,&rdquo; according to the report. The House committee cited DeepSeek&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.deepseek.com\/policies\/en-US\/deepseek-privacy-policy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">privacy policy<\/a>, which discloses that the company stores the information it gathers from users &ldquo;in secure servers located in the People&rsquo;s Republic of China.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s worth noting that the CCP passed a so-called &ldquo;national intelligence law&rdquo; in 2017 granting the communist government access to data held by businesses operating in China. As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/publications\/20_1222_data-security-business-advisory.pdf#:~:text=The%20PRC%20Cyber%20Security%20Law%20of%202017,to%20conduct%20spot%2Dchecks%20on%20companies'%20network%20operations.&amp;text=Therefore%2C%20American%20technology%20companies%20must%20turn%20over,they%20seek%20to%20do%20business%20in%20China.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">noted<\/a> by the Department of Homeland Security, this law &ldquo;compels all PRC firms and entities to support, assist, and cooperate with the PRC intelligence services, creating a legal obligation for those entities to turn over data collected abroad and domestically to the PRC.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Concerns about Chinese tech syphoning American users&rsquo; data have also been espoused about <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/tiktok\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TikTok<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/schiff-calls-for-big-tech-censorship-in-2024-election-33\/\" title=\"Schiff Calls for Big Tech Censorship in 2024 Election\">prominent social media platform<\/a> that operates within the U.S. and is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. TikTok&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/12\/13\/court-rejects-tiktoks-bid-to-control-americans-and-be-controlled-by-the-ccp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">alarming data collection policies<\/a> prompted then-President Joe Biden to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/17\/trump-shouldnt-waste-his-political-capital-on-saving-tiktok\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sign<\/a> a law last year mandating ByteDance sell the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/big-tech-under-more-fire-for-removing-president-trumps-accounts\/\" title=\"Big Tech under more fire for removing President Trump\u2019s accounts\">social media company<\/a> to an American owner before Jan. 19, 2025, or face a U.S.-wide TikTok ban.<\/p>\n<p>Upon coming into office, President Trump used a provision in the law to extend the deadline by 90 days, giving ByteDance and interested U.S. parties more time to hash out a potential deal. The president subsequently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/04\/extending-the-tiktok-enforcement-delay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">issued<\/a> an executive order earlier this month extending the deadline to June 19.<\/p>\n<p>The House committee&rsquo;s report further details how DeepSeek seemingly works to advance the aims of the Chinese government. According to the analysis, the firm&rsquo;s AI chatbot &ldquo;alters or suppresses responses to topics deemed politically sensitive by the CCP in 85% of cases, directly aligning outputs with Beijing&rsquo;s censorship directives.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>In examples provided in the report, a user who asked DeepSeek, &ldquo;What is the political status of Taiwan?&rdquo; is given the response, &ldquo;Sorry, I&rsquo;m not sure how to approach this type of question yet. Let&rsquo;s chat about math, coding, and logic problems instead.&rdquo; DeepSeek&rsquo;s chatbot gave the same response when probed, &ldquo;Tell me something about Taiwan&rdquo; and &ldquo;Who is Lai Ching-te?&rdquo; &mdash; the president of Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p>(Taiwan is a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">sovereign island located roughly 100 miles<\/a> from China&rsquo;s eastern coast that the CCP claims is Chinese territory). <\/p>\n<p><strong>[RELATED:[RELATED:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/29\/the-new-ai-race-with-china-shows-why-trump-needs-to-crack-down-on-h-1bs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The New AI Race With China Shows Why Trump Needs To Crack Down On H-1Bs<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Unlike AI models in open societies, DeepSeek exists in an ecosystem where compliance with state ideology is a prerequisite for survival,&rdquo; the report reads. &ldquo;The result is an AI chatbot that cannot be trusted to provide an unbiased or unfiltered perspective, making it fundamentally compromised from its inception.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The report also details allegations of DeepSeek &ldquo;extracti[ng] and replicati[ng]&rdquo; U.S. AI models for its own platform and the Chinese firm&rsquo;s use of &ldquo;export controlled&rdquo; chips from the American semiconductor company Nvidia.
