DHS released this information to counter the portrayal of Garcia as a &#8220;Maryland man&#8221; by some Democratic lawmakers, emphasizing his violent history. Court documents revealed that Garcia\u2019s wife had previously sought a restraining order against him due to domestic violence,citing incidents of physical abuse. Garcia was previously in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody but gained &#8220;withholding of removal&#8221; status, supported by his wifeS testimony.Despite claims that he was mistakenly deported, he is now being held in a terrorism confinement center in El Salvador, as the country&#8217;s President, Nayib bukele, has pledged to keep him there. Democratic lawmakers have pointed to a lack of paperwork as evidence that he was mistakenly deported. At that point, Abrego Garcia had been married to his wife, Jennifer, for almost two years, and she had given birth to their only child. Before this incident, Abrego Garcia had been in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody but had successfully gained &ldquo;withholding of removal&rdquo; status. Jennifer had already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lawfaremedia.org\/article\/abrego-garcia-and-ms-13--what-do-we-know\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"testified\">testified<\/a> on his behalf to obtain this status.<\/p>\n<p>Reports referring to Abrego Garcia&rsquo;s deportation have referred to him as a &ldquo;Maryland man&rdquo; despite his history of illegally immigrating to the U.S. in 2011.
