For that reason, I will not return the blue slip for the U.S. Attorney nominees for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The move by Schumer comes amid intense political pressure from Democrats to combat Trump more forcefully and as the party searches for new avenues to stonewall his agenda. <\/p>\n<p>The White House did not respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">blue slip process affords power<\/a> to the minority party or any one senator opposed to a president&rsquo;s picks for prosecutor or circuit court judges. It&rsquo;s been widely used over the past century by senators from both parties, including sometimes against an administration of a lawmaker&rsquo;s own party.<\/p>\n<p>However, it&rsquo;s simply a tradition honored by the Judiciary Committee. In 2017, during Trump&rsquo;s first term, then-Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2017\/11\/16\/chuck-grassley-trump-court-picks-245367\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"scrapped the blue-slip tradition\">scrapped the blue-slip tradition<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lawmakers-silent-on-biden-solicitor-general-noms-financial-conflict\/\" title=\"...makers Silent on Biden Solicitor General Nom\u2019s Financial Conflict\">circuit court nominees<\/a> to overcome Democrats&rsquo; effective vetoes.
