Greene from two committees\">expressed regret<\/a> over including Donald Trump&#8217;s cameo in the film, describing it as a &#8220;curse&#8221; that has overshadowed the movie since its release in 1992. Initially, Columbus considered cutting the scene after seeing audience reactions during screenings, where it received unexpected cheers. Though, he ultimately left it in, feeling it contributed to the film&#8217;s charm.<\/p>\n<p>The cameo features Trump giving directions to the protagonist, Kevin McCallister, at the Plaza Hotel, which Trump owned at the time. Columbus mentioned that they were eager to shoot at the hotel but refuted claims that they begged Trump for the cameo. He joked about possibly moving to Italy should such an occasion arise.<\/p>\n<p>The director said in 2020 that Trump&rsquo;s cameo was made after the future president gave the film production permission to film <em>Home Alone 2<\/em> in the hotel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trump.com\/commercial-real-estate-portfolio\/the-plaza-hotel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Trump purchased in 1988 for over $407 million<\/a> before selling it in 1995.
