He criticized the Democratic Party as “rudderless” and suggested it will struggle to connect with voters if it focuses on issues like border security and inflationary policies. Whatley emphasized that Trump’s agenda—focusing on rebuilding the economy and promoting safety—resonates with the electorate. He acknowledged the financial advantages of the Democratic Party leading up to the 2026 midterm elections, but insisted that Republicans should leverage volunteers, infrastructure, and election integrity rather than solely relying on campaign spending. He noted a recent $13 million fundraising success for a republican association as an indicator of support for Trump’s agenda, advocating that maintaining Congressional control is essential for Trump’s continued influence.

RNC chairman says Trump ‘tickdown’ in support still puts him ahead of Democrats

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley downplayed concerns that President Donald Trump‘s legislative actions could dent his support ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, suggesting he is still “dramatically” more popular than the Democratic Party.

Whatley said the Democratic Party is “rudderless” ahead of former President Joe Biden‘s first speech on Tuesday since leaving the White House.
