border: 0\" width=\"600\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><script data-cfasync=\"false\" src=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/cdn-cgi\/scripts\/5c5dd728\/cloudflare-static\/email-decode.min.js\"><\/script><script src=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/embed.js\" async=\"async\"><\/script>    <\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration has been warring with Harvard and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/education\/3341396\/trump-administration-cancels-columbia-university-grants-worth-400-million\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"other Ivy League schools\">other universities<\/a> for weeks, with the president accusing them of failing to crack down on antisemitic behavior following last year&rsquo;s protests over Israel&rsquo;s war in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>Trump announced Monday that he was freezing some $2.2 billion in grants and $60 million in contracts with Harvard, following its vow not to comply with his wishes regarding protest activity and other on-campus activism.<\/p>\n<p>It was the seventh such move taken against a top-tier university, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/harvard-trump-administration-federal-cuts-antisemitism-0a1fb70a2c1055bda7c4c5a5c476e18d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"according\">according<\/a> to the <em>Associated Press. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Harvard is among a select group of universities with endowments reaching tens of billions of dollars. Its endowment is $50.7 billion, though the private university is a nonprofit institution.<\/p>\n<p>Losing tax-exempt status would be another financial blow to Harvard, which receives tax-exempt donations from rich alumni. However, it&rsquo;s unclear if Trump has the power to make that determination on his own.<\/p>\n<p>Almost all colleges and universities in the United States accept federal funding, making them dependent on the government for operations. Trump has sought to use that fact to gain leverage over how they address protest activity and other functions.<\/p>\n<p>However, Harvard&rsquo;s astronomical endowment could position it to fight back against the Trump administration in ways that would be more difficult for other universities.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration wrote to Harvard last Friday, calling for reforms <span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">to admissions policies.
