The project had been criticized for promoting negative stereotypes about white individuals. Trump&#8217;s executive orders mandated the removal of content perceived as divisive and directed the enforcement of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/retired-nfl-player-calls-for-separate-transgender-category-of-sports-after-biden-executive-order\/\" title=\"Retired NFL Player Calls For Separate Transgender Category Of Sports After Biden ...\">anti-discrimination laws<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Smithsonian&#8217;s \u201cTalking About Race\u201d webpage, which had faced scrutiny as its launch for its controversial content, was taken down between late February and early March 2023. This page, part of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, had previously included content that some argued perpetuated racist ideologies.<\/p>\n<p>After the removal, a museum representative stated they were integrating the project\u2019s content into a more general educational framework, without confirming if it would be republished. White House spokesperson Davis Ingle noted that the President&#8217;s orders aimed to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">eliminate content fostering division based<\/a> on race.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cTalking About Race\u201d project was criticized for its reliance on critical race theory, which emphasizes group identity over individualism and suggests inherent societal oppression. This controversial program appears to have been shut down in response to the new administration\u2019s stance against racial discrimination and divisive ideologies.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A far-left online project from the Smithsonian has disappeared, just weeks after President Donald Trump signed executive orders enforcing laws against racial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/ending-illegal-discrimination-and-restoring-merit-based-opportunity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">discrimination<\/a>. The project was previously exposed for pushing <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/07\/15\/smithsonian-pushes-racist-material-claiming-white-culture-is-nuclear-family-self-reliance-being-polite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">racist claims<\/a> about white people.<\/p>\n<p>Soon after taking office in January, Trump signed executive orders <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/ending-illegal-discrimination-and-restoring-merit-based-opportunity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ending Illegal Discrimination And Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/ending-radical-and-wasteful-government-dei-programs-and-preferencing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ending Radical And Wasteful Government DEI Programs And Preferencing<\/a>. The orders banned discrimination in the name of &ldquo;diversity&rdquo; across the government and directed the attorney general to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-and-aclu-gear-up-to-defend-trans-hormone-treatment-for-children\/\" title=\"Biden Admin and ACLU Gear Up To Defend Trans Hormone Treatment for Children\">enforce anti-discrimination law<\/a> accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>Following these orders, the Smithsonian removed its main webpage on &ldquo;Talking About Race&rdquo; sometime <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20250303112612\/https:\/\/nmaahc.si.edu\/learn\/talking-about-race\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">between late February and early March<\/a>, according to internet archives. The page now redirects to &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/nmaahc.si.edu\/learn\/educators\/teaching-and-learning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">teaching and learning<\/a>&rdquo; resources.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>&ldquo;The Smithsonian&rsquo;s National Museum of African American History and Culture is in the process of integrating content from the &lsquo;Talking About Race&rsquo; portal into our flagship website,&rdquo; a museum representative told The Federalist. &ldquo;This transition is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the digital experience for the more than 6 million online visitors we serve around the world each year.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Federalist repeatedly asked to confirm whether the museum would republish these materials on another site, but the representatives did not respond in time for publication. The Federalist also asked the White House if these webpages had been removed, and if the materials violated Trump&rsquo;s executive order.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&ldquo;President Trump&rsquo;s executive orders directed the removal of content that divides and pits Americans against one another based on race,&rdquo; Davis Ingle, a spokesman for the White House, told The Federalist. &ldquo;The President will continue working to ensure that the Smithsonian removes all improper ideology and once again unites and instills pride in all Americans regarding our great history.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Talking About Race<\/h2>\n<p>The project, in the Smithsonian&rsquo;s National Museum of African American History and Culture, promoted racist stereotypes about white people. In 2020, the museum drew fire for its graphic claiming &ldquo;common characteristics of most U.S. White people&rdquo; include &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/07\/15\/smithsonian-pushes-racist-material-claiming-white-culture-is-nuclear-family-self-reliance-being-polite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">master and control nature<\/a>,&rdquo; &ldquo;aggressiveness and extroversion,&rdquo; &ldquo;heavy value on ownership of goods, space, property,&rdquo; and &ldquo;steak and potatoes; &lsquo;bland is best,&rsquo;&rdquo; as The Federalist&rsquo;s Jordan Boyd reported at the time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This project was so egregious that Republican Sen. Josh Hawley demanded answers, and Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie Bunch conceded that the &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/07\/29\/smithsonian-finally-responds-to-hawley-says-racist-program-was-to-raise-issues-for-discussion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">specific chart<\/a> &hellip; did not contribute to productive, informed conversations,&rdquo; as The Federalist&rsquo;s Tristan Justice reported. The document in question had been removed at the time.<\/p>\n<p>But even after this exchange, the Smithsonian continued to maintain its &ldquo;Talking About Race&rdquo; project until recently.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The museum still hosted a page on &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20250304103753\/https:\/\/nmaahc.si.edu\/learn\/talking-about-race\/topics\/whiteness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Whiteness<\/a>&rdquo; until at least March 4, targeting supposed &ldquo;white-dominant culture,&rdquo; &ldquo;white privilege,&rdquo; and &ldquo;microaggressions.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<div>\n<p>&ldquo;Whiteness is also at the core of understanding race in America. Whiteness and the normalization of white racial identity throughout America&rsquo;s history have created a culture where nonwhite persons are seen as inferior or abnormal,&rdquo; the webpage <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20250304103753\/https:\/\/nmaahc.si.edu\/learn\/talking-about-race\/topics\/whiteness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">read<\/a>, according to an archive.<\/p>\n<p>The Smithsonian <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20250304103753\/https:\/\/nmaahc.si.edu\/learn\/talking-about-race\/topics\/whiteness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claimed<\/a> that &ldquo;[i]f you identify as white, acknowledging your white racial identity and its privileges is a crucial step to help end racism.&rdquo; It even cited the queen of DEI herself, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/robin-diangelo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Robin DiAngelo<\/a>, to describe &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20250314184229\/https:\/\/www.learningforjustice.org\/magazine\/summer-2019\/whats-my-complicity-talking-white-fragility-with-robin-diangelo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">white fragility<\/a>&ldquo;: &ldquo;Since white people &lsquo;live in a social environment that insulates them from race-based stress,&rsquo; whites are rarely challenged and have less of a tolerance to race-based stress.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&ldquo;For white people doing anti-racist and social justice work, the first meaningful step should be to recognize their fragility around racial issues and build their emotional stamina,&rdquo; reads an archive of the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20250304103753\/https:\/\/nmaahc.si.edu\/learn\/talking-about-race\/topics\/whiteness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">webpage<\/a>. &ldquo;Besides your own internal reflection, processing, and daily commitment to anti-racist work, try participating in affinity groups, or caucuses.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The project also encouraged &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20250207231434\/https:\/\/nmaahc.si.edu\/learn\/talking-about-race\/audiences\/committed-equity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">person[s] committed to equity<\/a>&rdquo; to learn their &ldquo;group identities,&rdquo; claiming it could &ldquo;make our society more equitable and can be a <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20250124200609\/https:\/\/nmaahc.si.edu\/learn\/talking-about-race\/audiences\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">catalyst for change<\/a>.&rdquo;&nbsp;It taught parents to believe &ldquo;my <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20250204080945\/https:\/\/nmaahc.si.edu\/learn\/talking-about-race\/audiences\/parent-caregiver\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">child can be an agent of change<\/a> against racial inequity&rdquo; and to build &ldquo;healthy racial identity&rdquo; within youth. It also told teachers to <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20250207202038\/https:\/\/nmaahc.si.edu\/learn\/talking-about-race\/audiences\/educator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cultivate &ldquo;students&rsquo; racial consciousness&rdquo;<\/a> and to &ldquo;develop their racial awareness.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Smithsonian&rsquo;s project was a textbook exercise of <a href=\"https:\/\/christopherrufo.com\/p\/crt-briefing-book\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">critical race theory<\/a>: teaching youth to view themselves through the lens of group identity rather than as individuals, and dividing society between oppressors and oppressed. By creating discontent &mdash; and suggesting one&rsquo;s nation is evil at the most foundational level &mdash; Marxist activists hope to spark conflict and radical change for their own ends.<\/p>\n<p>While the exact cause is unclear, these webpages were shut down after Trump&rsquo;s executive orders against race-based discrimination.
