You could almost hear the collective groan from the Trump-hating corporate media.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As irresponsible as ever, the Pravda Press have pumped up their doom-and-gloom coverage of President Trump&rsquo;s tariff policies to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/military-life\/defcon-levels.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DEFCON 1.<\/a> Per usual, the usual left-bending media suspects have used the tariff battles and the volatile markets as a cudgel to politically pound Trump with, churning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/dereksaul\/2025\/04\/14\/forbes-recession-tracker-recession-odds-spike-as-trumps-tariff-liberation-day-approaches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&ldquo;recession&rdquo;<\/a> chatter while all but ignoring positive news in the U.S. economy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A new report from media tracker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NewsBusters<\/a> shows just how slanted the coverage has been.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>&lsquo;Intensions Clear as Day&rsquo;<\/h2>\n<p>On April 4, the day the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/archives\/empsit_04042025.htm#:~:text=Establishment%20Survey%20Data%20Total%20nonfarm,and%20in%20transportation%20and%20warehousing.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> hiring in March had surged by a stronger-than-expected 228,000 jobs, the broadcast networks over the 24-hour period devoted 62 times more coverage on the Trump tariffs and market declines, according to the report, exclusively provided to The Federalist.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Nobody&rsquo;s faulting the media for covering an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/what-the-ukraine-war-revealed-about-the-worlds-fragile-food-supply-chains\/\" title=\"What The Ukraine War Revealed About The World\u2019s Fragile Food Supply Chains\">ongoing trade war<\/a> or a dramatic dip in the stock market. But when they can&rsquo;t even spare a full minute to cover an incredibly positive jobs report, they make their intentions clear as day,&rdquo; Bill D&rsquo;Agostino, Media Editor for NewsBusters and Senior Research Analyst for the Media Research Center&rsquo;s News Analysis division, told The Federalist.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The hyperbolic networks devoted 10 times more coverage to the tariff story than to last week&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/04\/10\/inflation-rate-eases-to-2point4percent-in-march-lower-than-expected.html#:~:text=The%20consumer%20price%20index%20fell,core%20inflation%20since%20March%202021.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report of declining consumer prices <\/a>. While the Consumer Price Index dipped, led by lower prices at the pumps, ABC News had nothing to say about the aggregate CPI decline, NewsBusters found. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/reporter-passes-out-during-white-house-press-briefing\/\" title=\"...er faints at White House press briefing\">broadcast news network<\/a> did air 16 seconds on <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">slightly rising egg prices<\/a>, according to the report. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Corporate news outlets in general couldn&rsquo;t help but drown the good news on inflation in worries over Trump tariffs. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;U.S. consumer prices unexpectedly fell in March amid cheaper gasoline and used motor vehicles, but the benign inflation reading is unlikely to be sustained after President Donald <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/trumps-latest-tariffs-loom-set-deepen-global-trade-war-2025-04-09\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trump<\/a> doubled down on tariffs on imported Chinese goods,&rdquo; Reuters<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/us\/us-consumer-prices-unexpectedly-fall-march-2025-04-10\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> proclaimed <\/a>in an April 10 story.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Broadcast coverage of the tariffs between April 2 and April 11 totaled 422 minutes and 45 seconds &mdash; more than 7 hours-worth. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Total tariff coverage by the three networks, according to NewsBusters&rsquo; review:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&rsaquo; ABC: 148 minutes, 41 seconds<\/p>\n<p>&rsaquo; CBS: 130 minutes, 5 seconds<\/p>\n<p>&rsaquo; NBC: 143 minutes, 59 seconds<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the networks devoted a measly 45 seconds to the April 4 jobs report over the 24-hour period, compared to 46 minutes, 50 seconds of tariffs coverage. Total jobs report coverage by the three networks vs. tariff reporting:<\/p>\n<p>&rsaquo; ABC: 14 seconds (vs 17 min 53 sec tariffs)<\/p>\n<p>&rsaquo; CBS: 20 seconds (vs 12 min 7 sec tariffs)<\/p>\n<p>&rsaquo; NBC: 11 seconds (vs 16 min 50 sec tariffs)<\/p>\n<p>The networks spent a total of 173 seconds covering March&rsquo;s Consumer Price Index decline over the 24-hour period beginning on April 10.&nbsp; Meanwhile they, devoted nearly 31 minutes to tariff talk over the same period.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Total CPI coverage by the three networks vs. tariff reporting:<\/p>\n<p>&rsaquo; ABC: NONE (vs 11 min 54 sec tariffs)<\/p>\n<p>&rsaquo; CBS: 9 sec (vs 13 min 28 sec tariffs)<\/p>\n<p>&rsaquo; NBC: 165 sec (vs 5 min 27 sec tariffs)<\/p>\n<p>D&rsquo;Agostino asserts the flood of tariff coverage isn&rsquo;t born out of a concern for the economy; it&rsquo;s about damaging the Trump administration&rsquo;s image. The song remains the same for an <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/11\/07\/after-trumps-victory-there-can-be-no-unity-without-a-reckoning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">accomplice media<\/a> that has spent the past decade trying to crush Trump and the MAGA movement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Every news item we study, it&rsquo;s always the same story. The corporate media are only ever on the hunt for bad news about the President,&rdquo; the media analyst said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>&lsquo;Fear-Mongering&rsquo; First<\/h2>\n<p>The Dow Jones Industrial Average on Monday <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/major-us-stock-indexes-fared-203050071.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">closed <\/a>up 312 points, or 0.8%, while the S&amp;P 500 climbed 0.8%  and the tech-driven Nasdaq Composite rose 0.6%. The Trump administration&rsquo;s announcement that smartphones, computers, semiconductors, and other devices and components would be exempt from reciprocal tariffs &mdash; at least for now &mdash;eased investors&rsquo; minds, while the panic peddlers continued to push imminent doom.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The temporary move was a &ldquo;step back from the cliff,&rdquo;&nbsp;the ever-hyperbolic ABC News <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Business\/global-stock-markets-amid-trump-tariffs-exemptions-electronics\/story?id=120778659\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported,<\/a> quoting an investment source warning Monday&rsquo;s tech sector upswing could easily give way to more steep declines.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There&rsquo;s no denying the volatility in the markets, nor the financial concerns the tariff battles have brought, particularly to those in or nearing retirement. There&rsquo;s also no denying the accomplice media&rsquo;s role in stoking the flames of fear &mdash; as they have done <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2025\/04\/04\/market-meltdown-over-trump-tariffs-sparks-fear-of-future-recession-00271298\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">time<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/03\/20\/briefing\/donald-trump-us-economy-recession.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">time again<\/a> when it comes to Trump and his policies. The same media outlets that allowed Democrats to <a href=\"https:\/\/waysandmeans.house.gov\/2022\/07\/26\/white-house-recession-rebrand-wont-reduce-americans-suffering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">redefine<\/a> the actual recession Americans suffered through during the Biden presidency are now claiming Trump&rsquo;s attempts to hammer out fair trade deals will send the U.S. economy plunging into ruin.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The liberal media can&rsquo;t get enough of talking about a recession,&rdquo; Curtis Houck, managing editor of NewsBusters, told me Monday afternoon on the &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iheart.com\/podcast\/426-the-vicki-mckenna-show-27246267\/episode\/vicki-mckenna-show-welfare-for-272525457\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vicki McKenna Show.<\/a>&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Case in point, MSNBC and Axios <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/msnbc\/watch\/-there-s-a-pretty-good-chance-we-re-in-a-recession-axios-chief-financial-correspondent-237327429725\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">teamed up<\/a> on Monday to tell the few viewers the leftist cable news network has that, &ldquo;There&rsquo;s a pretty good chance we&rsquo;re in a recession.&rdquo; This doomcasting less than a month after the Federal Reserve Board reported that recent indicators suggest that economic activity continues to expand at a solid pace.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The unemployment rate has stabilized at a low level in recent months, and labor market conditions remain solid,&rdquo; the fed&rsquo;s board of governors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalreserve.gov\/newsevents\/pressreleases\/monetary20250319a.htm#:~:text=Recent%20indicators%20suggest%20that%20economic,Inflation%20remains%20somewhat%20elevated.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">concluded<\/a> in March, noting that &ldquo;Inflation remains somewhat elevated.&rdquo; The board acknowledged growing uncertainty around the economic outlook but felt good enough about the overall health of the economy that it kept its benchmark interest rate <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/fed-federal-reserve-rates-trump-tariffs-inflation-prices-a9008f1bb081093cd149967e3e637c7b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unchanged<\/a>, much to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/04\/04\/trump-tariffs-jerome-powell.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dissatisfaction of Trump<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;That&rsquo;s what we&rsquo;ve really been seeing, the general fear-mongering, instead of just saying, &lsquo;Here&rsquo;s what might happen that&rsquo;s good, here&rsquo;s what might happen that&rsquo;s bad, but we just have to see&rsquo;&rdquo; Houck said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>NewsBusters&rsquo; latest data show the biggest players in corporate media are much more interested in fear-mongering than the full story. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Matt Kittle is a senior elections correspondent for The Federalist.
