Smith potentially seeking a presidential run in 2028<\/a>. Smith stated on Sunday that he has &ldquo;no choice&rdquo; but to leave the door open to this possibility. She compared Smith&rsquo;s comments to Trump&rsquo;s discontent with the Republican Party that prompted him to run for office in 2015, noting how voters are looking for someone who &ldquo;reawakens their political party.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Zito said she believes Smith is &ldquo;hinting at&rdquo; how the Democratic Party&rsquo;s current strategy is &ldquo;not working&rdquo; in gaining supporters and that he would take on the challenge of remaking the party if no one else does. Her assessment comes after Smith mentioned several Democrats he felt were more qualified to run for president in 2028, including Govs. Josh Shapiro (D-PA), Wes Moore (D-MD), and former New York Gov. Amid Sanders&rsquo;s Fighting Oligarchy tour, he attended the Coachella music festival in Southern California, telling attendees they must <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/3378900\/bernie-sanders-coachella-crowd-youth-california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">&ldquo;stand up to fight for justice&rdquo;<\/a> during Clairo&rsquo;s set.<\/p>\n<p>Ocasio-Cortez is already a recognizable name within the Democratic Party, and rumblings have grown over her potentially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/3370622\/aoc-schumer-polling-new-york-senate-primary-2028\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">seeking a Senate primary run<\/a> against Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
