Janet Mills, who wants to continue the practice.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1246612922\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&ldquo;The Department has given Maine every opportunity to come into compliance with Title IX, but the state&rsquo;s leaders have stubbornly refused to do so, choosing instead to prioritize an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/state-of-maine-referred-to-doj-after-refusing-to-sign-title-ix-agreement\/\" title=\"... of ... ... to DOJ After Refusing to Sign ... Agreement\">extremist ideological agenda<\/a> over their students&rsquo; safety, privacy, and dignity,&rdquo;&nbsp;Acting Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Craig Trainor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/about\/news\/press-release\/us-department-of-education-announces-consequences-maines-title-ix-noncompliance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> in a press release.&nbsp;&ldquo;The Maine Department of Education will now have to defend its discriminatory practices before a Department administrative law judge and in a federal court against the Justice Department. Governor Mills would have done well to adhere to the wisdom embedded in the old idiom &mdash; be careful what you wish for. Now she will see the Trump Administration in court.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Education is continuing with its plan to terminate federal education funds to the Maine Department of Education (MDOE).<\/p>\n<p>The referral to the Justice Department <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/02\/trump-admin-sends-maine-final-warning-for-allowing-boys-in-girls-sports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">comes after<\/a> an investigation finding Maine in violation of Title IX, the state refusing to sign a resolution agreement with the federal government which requires various concessions like blocking men from competing against women, and having a &ldquo;final warning&rdquo; issued telling the state to comply or have the issue raised to the Justice Department.<\/p>\n<p>Maine claims, however, that Title IX &mdash; which was expressly created to protect women and girls in sports and education &mdash; actually does allow their safety and opportunities to be stripped by males.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Nothing in Title IX or its implementing regulations prohibits schools from allowing transgender girls and women to participate on girls&rsquo; and women&rsquo;s sports teams,&rdquo; Sarah Forster, the state&rsquo;s assistant attorney general, <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/trump-admin-moves-withhold-federal-funds-maine-trans\/story?id=120731338\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> according to ABC News. &ldquo;Your letters to date do not cite a single case that so holds. To the contrary, various federal courts have held that Title IX and\/or the Equal Protection Clause require schools to allow such participation.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>While the Biden administration&rsquo;s Title IX regulations would have allowed what Forster is describing, they were <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/31\/trumps-education-department-ends-bidens-harmful-title-ix-social-experiment-on-children\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">summarily rejected by a federal court<\/a> for doing the exact thing Maine claims is permitted: Change the definition of sex to claim &ldquo;transgender girls&rdquo; (aka boys) are really female and belong on girls&rsquo; sports teams.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Correction: ED referred Maine to DOJ over MALE ATHLETES not over &lsquo;transgender athletes&rsquo; (whatever that may mean),&rdquo; Candice Jackson, deputy general counsel of the Department of Education, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CEJacksonLaw\/status\/1911228514872840483\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> in response to a news headline. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s almost as if the media is helping gender activists limp along on this 80\/20 losing issue by using obfuscatory language to hamper public awareness of plain facts.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Maine has been under investigation and found in violation of Title IX from <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/02\/trump-admin-sends-maine-final-warning-for-allowing-boys-in-girls-sports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">multiple different federal agencies<\/a>. While the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/02\/trump-admin-sends-maine-final-warning-for-allowing-boys-in-girls-sports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/me-lies-about-threats-to-school-lunches-in-trans-lawsuit\/\" title=\"ME Lies About Threats To School Lunches In Trans Lawsuit\">froze federal funding<\/a><\/a> for certain programs over the matter, Maine federal district Judge John Woodstock, a George W. Bush appointee, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/maine-usda-funding-freeze-title-ix-c50bdfa491f11273353844ecf43f4aeb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ordered<\/a> Friday that USDA unfreeze the funding.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">      Breccan F.
