Her removal followed a letter she sent to her team, which attempted to distance the base from comments made by Vice President J.D. Vance during his visit. Vance had expressed concerns about Denmark’s ability to protect Greenland and by extension, the United States. Meyers stated in her letter that the U.S. management’s concerns did not reflect the views of the base.

The dismissal raised questions about military leadership and civilian control, with Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell emphasizing that undermining the chain of command would not be tolerated. The article critically analyzes Meyers’ actions, suggesting they could violate military codes and represent a troubling tendency to prioritize personal political beliefs over duty. Ultimately, it posits that her statement reflects a important issue within military leadership concerning loyalty and accountability.

Remember when Space Force was the punching bag of liberals from coast to coast? Just wait to see how many tributes to the courageous personnel of this military branch, created during Donald Trump’s first term, the left will express in the coming weeks after a commander attempted to distance a Space Force base from the second Trump administration. According to Stars and Stripes, Col. Susan Meyers was removed from her position leading the 821st Space Base Group at Pituffik Space Base in Greenland after her letter addressing all base members—both American and non-American—was revealed. In it, she sought to dissociate the base from remarks made by Vice President J.D. Vance during his March visit, stating that “the concerns of the U.S. administration… do not reflect Pituffik Space Base.” These concerns included Denmark’s inadequate ability as a NATO member to safeguard U.S. interests on Greenland.

Vance emphasized during his visit that if an enemy missile were launched towards America, it would be those stationed at Pituffik who would alert their fellow service members further south about incoming threats and attempt interception efforts.

In response to Vance’s comments regarding Denmark’s lack of investment in Greenland’s security infrastructure and resources, Meyers later expressed her thoughts on March 31 about how Vance’s visit might have impacted everyone at the base. She stated she did not claim to understand current politics but insisted that Vice President Vance’s concerns did not represent Pituffik Space Base.

Following this incident, Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell announced Meyers’ dismissal late Thursday night, asserting that actions undermining command or subverting presidential directives would not be tolerated within Defense Department ranks.

Space Operations Command reiterated expectations for commanders to maintain high conduct standards and remain nonpartisan while performing their duties.
