Brad Paquette has introduced a bill to prohibit the purchase of soda and similar sugary drinks using Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. He argues that taxpayer dollars should not be spent on <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">items deemed nutritionally harmful<\/a>,like soda,which offers no nutritional value. The proposed legislation aims to ensure that SNAP funds are directed towards <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mike-pompeo-reveals-how-he-has-lost-nearly-100-pounds-in-just-several-months\/\" title=\"Mike Pompeo Reveals How He Has Lost Nearly 100 Pounds In Just Several Months\">healthier food options<\/a>. Paquette&#8217;s initiative comes amid similar considerations in ten other states that are exploring bans on junk food purchases with food assistance. Under current rules,SNAP already disallows the purchase of alcohol,tobacco,and ready-to-eat foods. If the federal Department of Agriculture denies Michigan\u2019s waiver request for the ban, the state would seek it annually until approved. We should ensure that SNAP beneficiaries are not using this program in a way that is both exorbitant and palpably harmful to themselves.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Ten other states are considering bans on junk food &ndash; candy, pop and other things high in fat and sugar &ndash; for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients. Those states are Texas, Arkansas, Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Missouri, Iowa, Tennessee and West Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>Every state already bans SNAP usage for alcohol, tobacco and foods made for immediate consumption.<\/p>\n<p>Paquette says he wants taxpayer dollars to be used for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/food-stamps-direct-california-snap-payment-worth-up-to-1691-to-wrap-up-in-six-days\/\" title=\"California ... offers a maximum payment of ,691, available for redemption within six days.\">healthier food choices<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Soda is among the most nutritionally detrimental food options available,&rdquo; Paquette said. &ldquo;The N in SNAP stands for nutrition. Taxpayer dollars should provide assistance for those in need to obtain food and drink that brings nourishment to the body.
