It emphasizes that Trump’s approach, characterized by an “America-first” agenda, aims to challenge long-standing trade practices that have favored foreign nations and the wealthy elite at the expense of ordinary Americans.

According to Trump, more than 50 countries are eager to negotiate deals to adjust tariffs, which he views as essential to achieving trade surpluses rather than deficits. The article mentions that Trump’s negotiation style involves demanding more than he expects, allowing him to secure favorable outcomes without risk.

Despite criticisms from financial elites and concerns about market stability stemming from the tariffs, Trump and his management argue that these measures are crucial to reshaping economic power in favor of the working class. There is a suggestion that this approach could symbolize a broader upheaval against existing power structures, prioritizing American workers’ interests over those of corporate investors.

The piece closes by underscoring the necessity of continued pressure on the system to ensure it serves all Americans, highlighting the ongoing tension between customary economic interests and the populist sentiments driving Trump’s support base.

President Donald Trump’s enemies have never understood him, and the same goes for some of his erstwhile-yet-lukewarm supporters.

For instance, those who have made fortunes in markets, confident that the value of their paper assets will continued to climb over the long term no matter what they do, and deriving that confidence in part from the fact that the federal government has bailed them out in the past, will never understand that the twin pillars of Trump’s statecraft — an America-first tariff policy and a commitment to destroying the deep state — explain precisely why millions of ordinary Americans who placed their faith in the president will continue to support him through hell if necessary.

According to the Associated Press, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday that the tariff policy he began implementing on Wednesday — “Liberation Day,” the president called it — has already paid dividends, as leaders from around the world have approached the president “dying to make a deal.”

The total number of nations hoping to reach an agreement on tariffs exceeded 50, per the AP.

“I spoke to a lot of leaders, European, Asian, from all over the world,” Trump told reporters. “They’re dying to make a deal. He always has.

In fact, his “Art of the Deal” approach to negotiations has always involved demanding more than what he thinks he can get, settling for everything he deems essential, and then congratulating his negotiating partner on having struck a good deal. He will get what he wants from those nations because they have no leverage. The entire system of trade has worked in their favor for decades. Trump has nothing to lose.

Make no mistake, however, for the president has not adopted tariffs merely as a negotiating tool. He plans nothing short of a revolution.

To illustrate, consider conservative commentator and America-first icon Tucker Carlson’s recent interview with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

The Trump administration, Bessent said, did not welcome skittish markets in decline over fears of the president’s tariffs. But the administration would pay that short-term price, and the Treasury Secretary explained why.

“I’m not happy with what’s going on in the market today,” Bessent told Carlson. “But the distribution of equities across households — the top ten percent of Americans own 88 percent of equities, 88 percent of the stock market. The next 40 percent owns 12 percent of the stock market.”

For those indifferent to math, that means exactly what Bessent suggested. Half of Americans own all of the equities in the stock market.

“The bottom 50 [percent] has debt,” Bessent continued. “They have credit card bills. They rent their homes. They have auto loans, and we’ve got to give them some relief.”

The Treasury Secretary then started to mention another statistic, but his excited interviewer interrupted him.

“That’s the message right there,” Carlson said. “Just as a bystander I’m like, ‘Wow. After all, the new BLS job forecast likely suffered from a methodology that undercounted jobs worked by illegal immigrants by 400,000-600,000, which meant that the overall economy actually looked fine.

Likewise, multi-billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman, who supported Trump on issues such as DEI and the pro-Palestinian radicalism that plagued campuses at the height of the Israel-Hamas War, has denounced the president’s tariffs, even suggesting on the social media platform X that one member of Trump’s administration may have tanked the market on purpose so as to further enrich himself and his friends.

I just figured out why @howardlutnick is indifferent to the stock market and the economy crashing. For example, individuals who have thrived in the markets and believe their investments will keep appreciating regardless of their actions—partly due to past government bailouts—will struggle to comprehend that Trump’s core strategies—an America-first tariff policy and a commitment to dismantling the deep state—are precisely why countless everyday Americans continue to back him unwaveringly. According to the Associated Press, Trump informed reporters on Air Force One that his recently initiated tariff policy—which he dubbed “Liberation Day”—has already yielded positive results as global leaders are eager to negotiate deals with him. Over 50 countries are reportedly seeking agreements on tariffs. Trump stated he has spoken with numerous leaders from Europe and Asia who are keen on making deals but emphasized that the U.S. will not run trade deficits with them because he views deficits as losses; instead, he aims for surpluses or at least breaking even.

The president is known for negotiating hardball tactics; his strategy often involves asking for more than what he expects to achieve while ultimately securing what he considers essential and then praising his counterparts for reaching a favorable agreement. He is likely to succeed in negotiations since other nations lack leverage after benefiting from an imbalanced trade system for years. Trump has little risk involved.

However, it’s important to note that tariffs aren’t just tools for negotiation; they represent a revolutionary shift in policy. This was highlighted during an interview between conservative commentator Tucker Carlson and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, where Bessent acknowledged that while the administration did not welcome market declines due to fears surrounding tariffs, they were willing to accept short-term consequences because of broader economic disparities: 88% of stock market equities are owned by the top 10% of Americans while half of all Americans hold no equities at all but rather face debts like credit card bills or auto loans.

Carlson reacted strongly during this discussion when Bessent pointed out these inequalities within American households.

Critics of Trump’s tariffs often lack insight into the struggles faced by American workers. For instance, recent reports indicated significant overestimations in job creation under President Biden’s administration—a situation downplayed by economists who suggested it was merely methodological errors related to undocumented workers’ contributions.

Moreover, billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman criticized Trump’s tariffs despite previously supporting him on various issues related to social justice initiatives during heightened tensions around Israel-Hamas conflicts.

As this situation unfolds further reveals allegiances regarding support for American laborers versus corporate interests among influential figures like Ackman and others commenting online about these developments indicate we have reached a pivotal moment where true loyalties will be tested amidst ongoing economic challenges driven by policies aimed at addressing systemic inequities affecting working-class citizens across America

[3817,32402,3634
post-2420734","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-diplomacy","tag-international-relations","tag-trump
["GET
