said David Bianchi, the Santulli family attorney. &ldquo;Their first instinct is to protect themselves and the fraternity. Nobody wanted to be the person blamed for what was going on here. Instead, they got one of the fraternity members who had a car to agree to drive him to the hospital.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Santulli had a blood alcohol content of .486 and was diagnosed with acute alcohol poisoning when he arrived at University Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>He would remain hospitalized nearly eight months, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.komu.com\/news\/midmissourinews\/mu-hazing-victim-released-from-hospital-unable-to-speak-see-or-walk\/article_c8abb3c8-e379-11ec-bedf-3bf8022f1df4.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KOMU-TV<\/a> in Missouri.<\/p>\n<p>Santulli is now blind, paralyzed and unable to speak, according to Bianchi.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Unfortunately, his condition is unchanged,&rdquo; Bianchi said. &ldquo;He has massive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/21-year-old-mixed-martial-artist-drops-fight-sudden-cardiac-event-expected-leave-brain-damaged\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">brain damage<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Bianchi filed a civil law suit in 2022, naming 25 defendants associated with the fraternity.<\/p>\n<p>That same year, the Santulli family had already racked up $2 million in medical expenses.<\/p>\n<p>Bianchi said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ed-sheeran-testifies-in-copyright-case-wouldve-been-an-idiot-to-openly-flaunt-stealing-lets-get-it-on\/\" title=\"Ed Sheeran Testifies In Copyright Case: \u2018Would\u2019ve Been An Idiot\u2019 To Openly Flaunt Stealing \u2018Let\u2019s Get It On\u2019\">family ultimately won<\/a> a multi-million dollar settlement.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;They will have whatever they need for the rest of his life without regard to cost,&rdquo; Bianchi said, the Daily Mail reported.<\/p>\n<p>The incident prompted the University of Missouri to withdraw recognition for the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, and the chapter was disbanded.<\/p>\n<p>Eleven of the fraternity brothers were criminally charged. Of those, 10 were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/multiple-noncitizen-immigrants-indicted-felony-illegal-voting-charges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">indicted<\/a> by a grand jury for hazing.<\/p>\n<p>Fraternity &ldquo;pledge dad&rdquo; Ryan Delanty, who handed Santulli the bottle, was sentenced to six months in jail and six more under house arrest for giving alcohol to a minor.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Our next step is for Danny&rsquo;s Law that should pass in 2025,&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsaz.com\/2025\/01\/08\/parents-freshman-permanently-impaired-hazing-incident-praise-new-law-holding-colleges-accountable\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said Tom Santulli<\/a>, the victim&rsquo;s father. &ldquo;Basically, if someone is in distress and so forth someone calls 911, you get immunity.
