\t\t\t\t}); \t\t\t} \t\t<\/script> <\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/north-carolina-election-2024-griffin-riggs-judges-fe51ca7bb095b9dcb305030220e69606\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Associated Press<\/a> reported, the race pitted Democratic incumbent Associate Justice Allison Riggs against Republican Jefferson Griffin.<\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s the last undecided race of 2024, according to the AP.<\/p>\n<p>Riggs was appointed to the court by Democratic Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/top-vp-contender-withdraws-kamala-harris-shortlist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roy Cooper<\/a> in 2023, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/North_Carolina_Supreme_Court_elections,_2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ballotpedia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Griffin is a member of the state Court of Appeals.<\/p>\n<p>His campaign had challenged the validity of tens of thousands of votes &mdash; most because the voters did not have drivers&rsquo; licenses or Social Security numbers attached to their voter registration.<\/p>\n<p>Other votes were challenged because they were from military or overseas voters who did not include identification with the ballot, according to the AP.<\/p>\n<p>A third category &mdash; &ldquo;potentially hundreds of overseas voters who have never lived in the U.S.,&rdquo; according to the AP &mdash; was discounted entirely because the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dem-amnesty-would-protect-domestic-abusers-republicans-say\/\" title=\"Dem Amnesty Would Protect Domestic Abusers, Republicans Say\">appeals court found<\/a> they didn&rsquo;t meet North Carolina residency requirements.<\/p>\n<p>The appeals court 2-1 ruling (with two Republicans in the majority and a Democrat dissenting) ordered the state board of elections to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">order county elections offices<\/a> to notify voters whose ballots can still be counted to provide the necessary documentation.<\/p>\n<p>Considering the tens of thousands of votes involved and where they were cast, the appeals court ruling could well turn a Democratic victory into a Republican win in a state now-President Donald Trump carried by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/report-released-showing-impact-christians-2024-election-huge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">almost 200,000 votes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Riggs&rsquo; allies have pointed out that the ballots challenged on the ID mandate, for example, largely came from Democratic-leaning counties,&rdquo; the AP reported. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s unclear how many voters will attempt to participate in the &lsquo;cure&rsquo; process.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Friday&rsquo;s ruling isn&rsquo;t the last on the matter, however.<\/p>\n<p>Riggs immediately announced an appeal to the North Carolina Supreme Court.
