In this case, variations of &ldquo;tariffs hurt working people the most&rdquo; and &ldquo;the cost is passed onto consumers.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/economics\/trumps-new-tariffs-will-hit-lower-income-households-hardest-rcna199501\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NBC News<\/a>: &ldquo;Trump&rsquo;s new tariffs will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/european-gas-prices-spike-13-per-cent-after-nord-stream-2-cancellation\/\" title=\"European Gas Prices Spike 13 Per Cent After Nord Stream 2 Cancellation\">hit lower-income households<\/a> the hardest.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-969349041\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/tariffs-consumer-impact-workers-prices-ba862da51b51ae1afdfae08bf02c2449\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Associated Press<\/a>: &ldquo;Companies buying foreign products pay the tariffs imposed on them &mdash; and, as a result, face higher costs that are typically passed on to customers.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/04\/02\/how-much-trump-tariffs-will-cost-you\/82777080007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">USA Today<\/a>: &ldquo;[S]ome economists predict Americans&nbsp;will feel the pain&nbsp;&ndash; at least in the short term &ndash; and low-income Americans most of all.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/04\/01\/trump-tariffs-effect-on-consumer-prices-debated-by-economists.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNBC<\/a>: &ldquo;Trump&rsquo;s tariffs are expected to raise consumer prices &hellip;&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><em>Me no like tariff! Tariff bad!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Nobody needs an advanced economics degree to know that&rsquo;s not all there is to say about the Trump administration&rsquo;s tax hike this week on companies importing their products to the U.S. A new tariff doesn&rsquo;t necessarily mean a price increase for consumers, but if it does, that&rsquo;s not where it ends. Many things could happen. Some or all of them will.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump on Wednesday announced mixed <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/03\/tariffs-are-the-only-way-to-restore-americas-long-term-economic-health\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&ldquo;reciprocal&rdquo; tariffs<\/a> on effectively all of America&rsquo;s trading partners, other than Canada and Mexico, with the White House calling them a &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/04\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-declares-national-emergency-to-increase-our-competitive-edge-protect-our-sovereignty-and-strengthen-our-national-and-economic-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">national security&rdquo;<\/a> measure intended to level out trade deficits and simultaneously relocate manufacturing industry to the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody knows for sure what will happen, even as the dying media are dead sure that prices will surge and that the only effect that matters is that people are going to be paying more for basically everything.<\/p>\n<p>Okay. And then what? They don&rsquo;t say, because either they don&rsquo;t know or they&rsquo;re not interested in  filling their audiences in on it.<\/p>\n<p>Econ 101: higher prices, lower demand. When consumers have to pay more for the things they like to buy, they inevitably buy less of those things. When they buy less, the companies that produce those things make less money. That means the companies are met with the same economic impact that they inflicted on their customers.<\/p>\n<p>The reason for the tariffs, according to the White House (and everyone who knows we make nothing in the U.S. anymore), is that instead of making their products here and creating jobs for Americans, manufacturers are making their stuff abroad, where it&rsquo;s less costly to do so with cheap workers (like Chinese children) and fewer labor laws (like regulated factory conditions). That means companies that could be investing here are instead investing elsewhere. If they lose money over tariffs, which have driven up prices for Americans, that&rsquo;s less money they can invest in places like Japan and the European Union.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, producers might decide it&rsquo;s better to simply make their stuff in America in order to skirt the tariffs, which allows them to sell more of it in the world&rsquo;s richest market (America). Or, other nations might <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fact-check-does-this-image-show-ukrainian-soldiers-mistakenly-burning-a-dutch-flag\/\" title=\"FACT CHECK: Does This Image Show Ukrainian Soldiers Mistakenly Burning A Dutch Flag?\">remove trade barriers<\/a> and allow more goods from the U.S. to be sold inside their borders if it means we eliminate or at least decrease the new tariffs. Ideally, both happen and everyone benefits.<\/p>\n<p>We don&rsquo;t know.
