We are going to have free and fair elections,&rdquo; the president<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/03\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-protects-the-integrity-of-american-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> wrote<\/a>. &ldquo;And ideally, we go to paper ballots, same-day voting, proof of citizenship, very big, and voter ID, very simple.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Democrats argued otherwise.
